The AdventureThis Sea Scouts overnight paddling adventure will mark the first organized campout on Towhead Island since the 129-acre Mississippi River island was donated to the Community Foundation of Greater Muscatine! The experience is for Scouts and potential Scouts ages 14-21 years old. The adventure begins Friday evening, October 30, at Camp Loud Thunder, where participants will set up camp, get to know their expedition team, and take part in team-building activities. After breakfast and additional activities Saturday morning, we&#39;ll break camp and prepare to launch our canoes around noon. From Camp Loud Thunder, the group will spend the afternoon paddling toward Muscatine, working together to navigate the river.&nbsp; By early evening, we&#39;ll arrive at Towhead Island&mdash;our campsite for the night. Participants will have the chance to experience the island in a way few people have since it became a community asset: arriving from the water, exploring the landscape, establishing camp, sharing a meal, and spending the evening together on an island in the middle of the Mississippi.&nbsp; Sunday morning, we&#39;ll grab a quick breakfast, break camp, and make one final paddle from Towhead to the Muscatine riverfront. CostCost is $20 per participant, including food and a contribution toward fuel and trip expenses. Space is limited to approximately 20 participants. Safety &amp; Registration RequirementsThis is a real outdoor expedition involving overnight camping and several hours of paddling on moving water. Participation in the canoe portion is an essential part of the experience. You don&#39;t need to be an experienced paddler or camper, but trip leaders need to understand each participant&#39;s swimming ability and paddle craft experience so we can make safe canoe assignments and plan appropriate accommodations. Participants who do not know how to swim must indicate that during registration. A trip leader will follow up individually to discuss safety considerations and possible accommodations. Our expedition will include certified medical personnel, including EMT and wilderness first aid-trained leaders, a comprehensive first aid kit, and marine and weather radios. Life jackets and other water-safety practices will be used throughout the paddling portion of the trip. All canoes will be provided by Sea Scouts.&nbsp; All participants will be required to complete a medical form. Registration will collect participant and guardian contact information, swimming ability, paddle craft experience, dietary restrictions, allergies, required medical information, and camping equipment needs. No previous camping or paddling experience is required. Bring your sense of adventure and your willingness to work as a team!
