Ex Corde&rsquo;s next concert for string orchestra features three premieres of new works, built around Tchaikovsky&rsquo;s&nbsp;Serenade for Strings. The concert begins in summer wind. <a fr-original-style="" href="https://yuvalmedina.com/" style="text-decoration-color: currentcolor; -webkit-user-select: auto; box-sizing: inherit;" target="_blank">Yuval Medina</a>&rsquo;s Meltemi is an overture of extremes, taking its name from the northerly winds that sweep the Aegean Sea each summer. <a fr-original-style="" href="https://www.joshuadelozier.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" style="text-decoration-color: currentcolor; -webkit-user-select: auto; box-sizing: inherit;" target="_blank">Joshua DeLozier</a>&rsquo;s work will, in sharp contrast, bring the string orchestra to the world of counterpoint, in the form of Toccata &amp; Fugue. Tchaikovsky described the first movement of the Serenade for Strings as an homage to Mozart; a quintessentially romantic work looking back toward an older musical tradition, it is one of the most beloved pieces ever written for the string orchestra. The evening closes with <a fr-original-style="" href="https://excorde.nyc/composers/marco-catella" style="text-decoration-color: currentcolor; -webkit-user-select: auto; box-sizing: inherit;" target="_blank">Marco Catella</a>&rsquo;s To Night, a solo cantata setting Percy Bysshe Shelley&rsquo;s eponymous poem, chosen in thematic connection to the serenata as music for evening.
