Kids and families are invited to a free shadow puppet workshop at Art Project Roanoke, led by local artist Mike Moran aka The Iowa Goatsinger. Design and cut your own shadow puppets, then work with the artist to practice a short live show right there on site. Their characters and scenes will help shape the shadow puppet performance at the Old Southwest Lantern Parade on Saturday, October 24. Participants are encouraged to bring their puppets to the parade but it is not required. While at APR, you'll also get to see artists at work building large-scale lanterns for the parade. It's a rare look at what goes into this kind of event, and a good excuse to explore the building if you haven't been to APR yet. No art experience needed. All materials are provided. Ages 7+ recommended / Grown-ups welcome to join in. This workshop is provided through the Arts Connect Neighbors program with funding from the City of Roanoke and the National Endowment for the Arts.
