Singing Out Las Cruces, in collaboration with NMSU&rsquo;s LGBT Programs will be hosting a FREE Gender Affirming Vocal Workshop on March 21st from 11 am - 1 pm in the Isabel Crouch Reader&#39;s Theatre (NMSU Las Cruces Campus) Located between Clara Belle Williams Hall and the Communication Sciences Building&nbsp; The workshop will be led by SOLC&rsquo;s Artistic Director, Irene Brink, who has over 20 years of experience in musical directing, providing private vocal instruction for everyone from children to seniors, and direct experience providing vocal lessons and training to folx on HRT; primarily around assisting them through vocal changes, and to maintain their singing voice. Irene feels strongly about helping trans/gender neutral/nonbinary folx navigate vocal transitions and recognizes how important and personal each person&rsquo;s voice is to their identity. Together with the assistance of members of Singing Out Las Cruces who&rsquo;s experiences will lend themselves to the content of the workshop we will be providing a safe space to explore your vocal abilities and experiences through exercises, examples, and discussions.&nbsp;The workshop will feature educational material about how our voices work, the effects of HRT on vocal anatomy, and how to ease the voice changes that happen on HRT to help folx access the voice they want. Afterward, we will have a discussion led by trans/gender non conforming folx about their own experiences with voice changes while on HRT.&nbsp;Snacks and drinks will be provided. While the workshop is open and available to anyone we ask that if you do not yourself identify as trans/gender non conforming/nonbinary, etc. please allow the RSVP spots to be filled first by those that do. You can always come on the day and if there is space we will gladly let you join.
