Drawing from feminist theology and lived trans experience, this solo performance places the Mother Mary in a gallery space, not as a passive symbol of purity, but as a vessel caught in a power structure disguised as holiness.Through embodied movement, spoken word, and visual symbolism, the performance asks: What happens when consent is assumed? What if sacred stories carry the blueprint for gendered violence? What myths have we called holy that silence the voices of the violated?The piece culminates with an invitation for the audience to reflect, respond, and inscribe their own truths—making the gallery not just a site of viewing, but of reckoning.JAGUAR MARY XJaguar Mary X attended the Whitney Independent Studies Program in 1995 and completed MFA degrees at California Institute for the Arts (Film/Video, 2009) and at Pratt Institute (Performance and Performance Studies, 2019) in Brooklyn. They identify as non-binary, agender. Originally from Washington, DC, they are currently in residence at the Art Life Institute founded by Linda Montano in Kingston, New York. They are the creator of the yearly, Queerteenth Performance Art Festival in Kingston. In 2022 they received the honor of City of Kingston’s Distinguished Artist Award for 2022-24.Jaguar Mary X is on Radio Kingston as the voice and creator of Midday and Midnight Medicine Journey and Invisible Realm, programs that center ancestral appreciation and international music by BIPOC experimental, electronic and ambient producers. After a life-shifting experience with mugwort, they began to share the plant's healing properties, organizing ritual smudging performance happenings. Jaguar Mary X developed Artemisia Negra, a pop-up event offering handmade incense and other healing tools infused with mugwort (L. artemisia vulgaris) in 2019.  KLEDIA SPIROKledia Spiro is a multimedia artist and educator whose work spans video, performance, installation, and socially engaged practice. Born in Albania and trained with an Olympic weightlifting team, she uses weightlifting as both metaphor and method to explore migration, identity, women’s strength, and collective memory. Her practice blends ritual, humor, and psychoanalytic concepts to investigate movement, power, and presence.Spiro transforms the act of lifting into a contemporary ritual that connects daily life with deeper questions of resilience, history, and human connection. By inviting audience participation, she creates immersive experiences that access spaces otherwise left invisible, psychological, communal, and embodied.Her work has been presented at venues including Times Square, the Queens Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, and Clio Art Fair, and has been featured in The New York Times, The Boston Globe, Hyperallergic, and WBUR. Recent projects include a Mellon Foundation commission for UnMonument Boston, a City of Boston performance commission for States of Emergence, and a projection mapping collaboration. She has delivered a TEDx talk, was keynote speaker for the New England Museum Association’s Centennial Conference, and has received recognition from the Massachusetts Cultural Council.Spiro holds an MFA and Museum Studies Certificate from Tufts University. She has taught at Northeastern University in Boston and London and is a current St. Botolph Club Fellow and member of the Mobius Artists Group.
