Every dollar of the winning bid on this signed Cale Makar photo goes straight to two things: getting our Youth Social Engagement Program off the ground this fall, and building the first community garden this foundation has ever had. The youth program connects young people ages 13 to 18 who are grieving, isolated, or struggling with their mental health to something that will bring them joy. A sport, a creative pursuit, a skill they've always wanted to try. We cover the full cost so money is never the reason a kid gets left out, and we surround them with coaches, mentors, and peers who they can build relationships with to help create the support systems they need. The goal is simple: get a kid out of isolation and connected to the people around them to help improve their mental health. We're about to walk a nearly two-acre property in Evans with two greenhouses already standing on it, and we're planning our community garden there. Kids in our youth program will learn to grow their own food, tend chickens, and get their hands in the dirt learning real skills most of them have never had a chance to try. Anyone in the community, whether they're grieving a loss, or just want a place to grow their own food, will be able to have a garden plot. This foundation exists because our founder lost her father to suicide. Hockey was his passion. A signed photo of Cale Makar isn't just a great auction item, it's the kind of thing that would have made him grin ear to ear. Bidding on it means putting something he loved to work funding the exact things he'd want to see built: kids getting a real shot, and a place for a community to grow something together. Bid, share this with an Avs fan you know, or just come find us at Heritage Day on September 19 to see it in person. The winner will be announced live at our booth. Can't be there? We'll reach out directly to arrange pickup or shipping. Visit our website if you would like to learn more about who we are and what we would like to accomplish- suicidelossmemorialfoundation.org
