LXCL:This will cover an entire basket for one widow this Christmas season. Each basket, which is really a bag, includes tea, matches, soap, flour, cooking oil, salt, rice and sugar. Feel free to ask two friends to match your donation and help to directly support three widows.

We are partnering with Stratosphere Social (Eldersburg, MD) again for our second annual Widow Basket Drive. Last year, we raised $1500 and enough to provide provisions to over 100 more widows that we did the year prior. Our goal this year is $2250 or 150 baskets. Pastor Caleb Wanjala, who runs Sundi&rsquo;s Gift Academy in Bungoma, an impoverished community in Western Kenya, has also taken on the grave task of caring for the area&rsquo;s widows. Every year, Pastor Caleb organizes a holiday event where he hands out gifts to women who travel great distances and mostly on foot to get there. What started as a rather small gathering of about 75 widows has grown to well over 300 women showing up. Unfortunately, there just isn&rsquo;t enough to go around. These are not what you would imagine when you think of a gift basket. There are no fancy lotions or cozy socks. We are talking about sugar, rice, salt, flour, oil, tea, a matchbox and bar of soap.It costs about $15 US to assemble one basket. You can donate $1, $5, $10 or go all in and sponsor an entire basket for $15.
