A Brief History of the Synod on SynodalityCalled by the Vatican "the most important event in the Church since Vatican II, this Church renewal began in 2021. Pope Francis launched a historic global process inviting the entire People of God to reflect on how the Church walks together: listening, discerning and participating in mission. This Synod on Synodality involved local consultations in parishes and dioceses across the world, continental assemblies and two month-long gatherings in Rome in 2023 & 2024, with the Pope, cardinals, bishops, priests, religious and laity. In 2025, there was a 2-day global convocation called "Jubilee of Synodal Teams and Participatory Bodies." We now begin the Implementation Phase in our daily lives since "synod" taken from the Greek means "walking together." These gatherings emphasized listening to every voice especially those often unheard. Synodality can be summed up in four words: "spiritual renewal and structural reform." This is expressed through deeper communion, participation and mission.
