Teen Intro to Clay

The Teen Intro to Clay class is perfect for rising high school+ students (ages 13+ or who have graduated from 8th grade). Students will spend three afternoons learning basic technique in our warm, welcoming clay studio environment at 208 State Street in historic Downtown Alton, Illinois.&nbsp; No previous experience is needed!&nbsp; Learn how to wedge your clay properly and to use tools like the extruder, slab roller, and potter&#39;s wheel to create pieces with clay. Students will have up to three hours of time to experiment with technique and explore processes in our beautiful, natural light clay studio space led by local teacher Aimee Parks.&nbsp; 7/13- Week one will focus on the process of hand building. Learn to coil, create slabs, score, and build shapes using your hands as tools. We&#39;ll end the class with a wheel throwing demo.&nbsp; 7/20- Week two splits the focus between hand building and an introduction into the potter&#39;s wheel. Students will continue working on hand building skills and learn the basic processes of how to throw pots on an electric potter&#39;s wheel.&nbsp; 7/27- Week three focuses on wheel throwing. Students will refine their throwing technique this week.&nbsp; This class is technique focused and may not result in a finished piece. Teens are welcome to join us at our Teen Open Clay Studio Time on Wednesday afternoons for an additional $10/ 3 hour session to continue to work on their technique or to finalize their pieces.
