The Commission Map: Navigating the Creative ProcessThe challenges of a client commission often begin long before the artwork takes shape. They start with the first conversation, take form in the contract, and continue throughout the creative and development process. Join artist Sam Kirk for an engaging, practical workshop exploring the lifecycle of an art commission—from the initial inquiry to the final installation. Together, we’ll look at where challenges, miscommunication, and difficult negotiations tend to arise, and discuss strategies for navigating client relationships, setting clear expectations, negotiating with confidence, and protecting your creative vision and artistic integrity. Through real-world experiences, examples, and open discussion, Sam Kirk will share insights from their professional practice and the realities of working with clients and commissions.Come prepared to share your own stories, questions, and experiences. This workshop is designed to turn real-world challenges into practical tools you can carry into your next commission. Target Audience: Working creatives and students preparing to enter the professional art world. Register below to reserve your place. Your participation supports NMPRAC’s mission to promote, integrate, and advance Puerto Rican arts and culture for communities in Chicago and beyond.
