ABOUT THE SHOW The Deb Callahan Band featuring Reverend Chris - "A Celebration of the Music of Ray Charles" Deb Callahan has always been a huge fan of the music of Ray Charles and has performed many of his songs during live performances over the years. His unique blend of gospel, blues, r& b, soul and country is a sound she was drawn to early on in her music career and has influenced her tremendously. "When I listen to Ray Charles, I am immediately drawn to the depth of emotion, passion and honesty in his voice as well as his incredible piano playing and songwriting. He was an innovator that created his own sound, breaking through musical genres and barriers of his time. His music conveys a sense of joy, love and passion as well as the pain, trauma and losses he experienced as a young black man growing up in a segregated south." Deb began exploring the idea of doing a show featuring some of her Ray Charles favorites and "A Celebration of the Music of Ray Charles" began to take root. She invited her friend Reverend Chris, a Philadelphia keyboard player with blues, jazz and New Orleans influences to join the band for this show and is excited about how it came together. "There is only one Ray Charles so we hope to celebrate and pay tribute to his musical legacy with our own interpretation" Philly's own blues and soul drenched singer and songwriter Deb Callahan has been performing, touring, recording and entertaining music fans both regionally and around the United States since the late 1990s. She has graced the stages of many festivals nationwide from The Monterey Bay Blues Festival in Monterey, CA, The Springing the Blues Fest in Jacksonville, FL, The Bayfront Blues Fest in Duluth, MN, The Briggs Farm Blues Fest in Nescopeck, PA to WXPN’s XPonential Music Festival in Philly. She celebrated the release of her 6th studio album "Backbone" in March 2023 for which she received rave reviews, national/international radio play and charted for over 6 months on The Roots Music Report Top 50 Blues albums peaking at #2 in the blues category. Often compared to Bonnie Raitt, Susan Tedeschi and Etta James, Callahan has developed a unique sound all her own. The latest album was produced by Philadelphia producer, songwriter, and guitarist Chris Arms and recorded live at Morningstar Studios in Glenside, PA. Deb's previous CD "Sweet Soul" was produced by Tony Braunagel (Etta James, Bonnie Raitt, Robert Cray) and recorded in Los Angeles with some incredible studio musicians in addition to her longtime guitarist Allen James.www.debcallahanband.com Videos:Carry Me - from WXPN The Key Studio Sessions https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8yCZBc5lIM Big Girl Pants, official video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_BmvFhUE_0&t=2s Christopher Marsceill (aka Rev Chris) was born in Boston and raised in Philadelphia where attended Settlement Music School at age 11 and eventually studied with Philly staple Eric Speigel who introduced him to reharmonization and singing. At 17 he made his way to New Orleans where he studied under Mike Pellera, Ellis Marsalis, Peter Martin and began to move away from modern jazz after meeting Joe Krown and Jon Cleary and embracing the ways of boogie-woogie and Professor Longhair style blues. Next was a string of successful tours with the Ted Hefko Quartet and New Orleans Juice and Brides of Jesus (featuring Russell Batiste of the Meters). In his travels he has shared the stage with Widespread Panic, Ani DiFranco, Blueground Undergrass, Santana, member of Squirrel Nut Zippers and the Dave Matthews Band. While not on the road he spent his time performing in the French Quarter with the Bradford Truby Trio, the Dukes of Dixieland, St. Louis Slim, and at Preservation Hall Jazz. He can also be found on bootleg recordings by Meters bassist George Porter solo project. The icing on this cake was weekly appearances at the historic Maple Leaf Bar as part of the Ellen Rogers Band from 1999-2002. In 2003 co- co-founded “Restless Natives” with Bill Iuso and Brian Besse. Their debut album featured members of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band and the Neville Brothers. www.revchrismusic.com ABOUT THE VENUE Tickets are $25 Presale / $30 Door / $10 Child ticket (Under 13).
