The breath is with us from the moment we arrive in this life until the moment we leave it, and most of the time we barely notice it. The Living Breath is an experiential exploration of breath as something more than a thing we do. Through gentle guided practices we will slow down and become curious about the felt experience of breathing. How the breath moves through us. Where it flows freely. Where it meets resistance. What we may find when we begin listening more deeply to the body from within. Rather than trying to control or perfect the breath, we will explore what happens when we let the breath meet our inner landscape with awareness. We may notice places of holding, protection, tension, openness, movement, emotion, spaciousness, or ease. As we grow more familiar with this terrain, we begin to recognize some of the patterns and blocks we carry, and to find more freedom in how we meet them. This is not a death practice. It is a practice of presence, and presence is what conscious living and conscious dying are both made of. Every day at Emberlight we practice ways to embrace death and support one another with loving presence, and that practice begins in the body, in the ordinary act of breathing.&nbsp; The steadiness we cultivate together in a room is the same steadiness we carry into a hard conversation, a bedside, a goodbye. Learning to stay with our own discomfort is how we learn to stay with someone else&#39;s. When we are more at home in ourselves, we can remain with another person through fear, grief, uncertainty, and change without turning away. A life met with awareness prepares us for a death met with awareness, and this is one of the ways we practice being together. For those of us who are part of Emberlight, this practice supports how we meet one another, our residents and their families, and the many people we accompany through the profound experiences of living and dying. For those joining us from the greater community, these same practices carry into relationships, family, work, caregiving, transitions, and the everyday stresses of being human. As we become more familiar with our own inner landscape, we may discover more spaciousness and more choice in how we respond to the people and circumstances around us. Ultimately, The Living Breath is an invitation to more fully inhabit the life that is already here. To listen, soften, become curious, and discover what may emerge when we allow the breath to guide us more deeply into ourselves and, from there, into more authentic connection with others. Your facilitator, Kelly Meyer, DACM, L.Ac., is a Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine and a certified Acutonics sound healing practitioner who offers acupuncture and sound therapy to Emberlight residents and members. She brings more than two decades in the healing arts, including years teaching Iyengar yoga and a long practice of Vipassana meditation, and her work lives close to the relationship between breath, body, and emotional life. Her way of accompanying people is relational and deeply attuned, shaped by twenty years in the small island community of Lopez Island, Washington, where care was rooted in familial connection, presence, and trust.
