A wickedly funny satire about good intentions, bad decisions, and the absurdity of trying to get everything right. What happens when four well-meaning theatre artists set out to create a culturally sensitive Thanksgiving play for elementary school students? Absolute chaos, of course. In Larissa FastHorse's critically acclaimed comedy The Thanksgiving Play, a group of painfully progressive educators and artists attempt to tell the story of Thanksgiving while navigating political correctness, cultural appropriation, white privilege, and their own desperate need to be seen as good people. As their plans unravel, so do their carefully constructed identities, resulting in a hilariously uncomfortable examination of performative allyship and the difference between good intentions and meaningful action. Seed Theatre brings its signature blend of bold storytelling, social commentary, and unapologetic humor to this razor-sharp satire. At a time when conversations about American history, representation, and whose stories deserve to be told are more relevant than ever, The Thanksgiving Play invites audiences to laugh, cringe, question, and perhaps recognize a little of themselves along the way.Smart, irreverent, and delightfully chaotic, this is not your elementary school's Thanksgiving pageant. Come for the comedy. Stay for the uncomfortable truths. Content Advisory: This production contains adult language, discussions of racism, colonialism, cultural appropriation, and satirical depictions of racial and social stereotypes. Recommended for mature audiences. About Seed Theatre: Seed Theatre is a Chattanooga-based nonprofit performing arts organization dedicated to amplifying marginalized voices, challenging conventional narratives, and creating accessible, inclusive spaces for community connection through the transformative power of theatre.
