As part of the yearly cycle, we reenact our ancestors’ story: their redemption from slavery, the moment when they received the teachings of the Torah, and their long trek through 40 years in the desert. Other holidays, each with its theme, offer us time for self-examination and growth, for exploration of what we can learn from living as a minority people, and more. We will draw on the Torah’s teachings to examine how each year becomes a cycle of spiritual practice, experienced differently as our lives and the world around us change. How do Jewish holidays connect us not only to family, friends, special foods, and celebrations but also to the deep teachings of our tradition? Join us in exploring this question in an open discussion led by Rabbi Bridget Wynne. All are welcome. No prior knowledge of Torah or Hebrew is required. Yet, explored from a sophisticated, adult perspective, rather than the literal understanding or children’s Torah stories we may have experienced, the Torah can be a rich source of wisdom for grappling with today’s real-life issues: ethics, family, work, politics, money, justice... Join us for this twice-monthly class led by Rabbi Bridget Wynne to explore the Torah and relevant commentaries in an open environment. Each session focuses on a specific portion of the text and the relevant issues it addresses. Newcomers of all ages and backgrounds are always welcome. You don't need to be Jewish to draw on Jewish wisdom. We meet online twice a month on the second and fourth Wednesdays, 7:00-9:00 pm PT. The fee per session is $30.
