Monday, March 23rd5:30 - 8:30 pm$45 includes all suppliesBest for ages 13 and upYou'll have the option to purchase a commercial kit after class Welcome Spring with a centuries-old craft found throughout Eastern Europe.  Ukrainian eggs, or pysanky, are created using a wax batik method.  We’ll examine traditional design elements, what the colors symbolize, and some of the stories associated with the eggs. During this class, you will learn to use a kistka (tiny funnel on a stick) to draw with melted wax on egg shells.  Once you’ve drawn the initial design, you dye the egg in a light color, add more wax, and dye again in the next color.  Once all the dyeing is complete, you melt off the wax to reveal your colorful design.  Students will go home with a set of instructions, up to two completed eggs, and the knowledge to continue the craft at home Theresa Hornstein has been crafting since childhood.  She teaches classes in crochet, knitting, natural dyes, felting, and sustainable crafting.
