Join us for the Vegan Scouts Summer Campout this August 🌲 Hello! We are so very excited to go to our second Campout of the year and enjoy the beauty of the outdoors together at Cougar Campground in Cougar, WA right near Mt. St. Helens! This is our shorter length, more laid back campout for the year. 2 nights under the stars and the days will be filled with scout and adult fun camp activities (swimming, hiking, games, s&#39;mores!). When: Arrival: Friday, August 7th anytime after 2pm (for those that are extra punctual - please note this is the earliest check in time and OCC will also be checking us in at this time)&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Departure: Sunday, August 9th 11am&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; **Optional OCC Hike is Sunday August 9th at 11:30am. See below for details! Where: Cougar Group Campground, Cougar, WAFrom the I-5 Woodland, Washington Exit #21, take Highway 503 East, approximately 33.5 miles to Cougar Park.*Please note that we have Group Site 1 reserved which is strictly ground tent only. Cost: Please make a donation!The fees would have been approximately $120 per family. In lieu of registration fees, we would like to invite your family to donate to Vegan Scouts in an amount that seems fair. Funding sources for nonprofits are very uncertain right now, and we super appreciate any amount you&#39;re able to donate to ensure Vegan Scouts is able to continue and thrive. (Plus all donations are tax-deductible!) 2. There will likely be a burn ban in effect, check before heading up. All campfires, charcoal or briquette fires, pellet fires, or any other open fires are prohibited. Portable cooking stoves, lanterns, and heating devices using liquefied or bottled fuel, such as propane, are allowed as they can be switched off instantly. Please plan accordingly for meals and other heating needs. 3. Campground info:&nbsp;Ground tents only, no trailer tents or RVs. The group sites are a very short walk to the lake, perfect for water activities or cooling off near the lake. Water activities are voluntarily to participate in. There are showers, water, and restrooms in the campground. For your packing list, take note that for the safety of all swimmers, no personal floatation devices (including but not limited to: kayaks, paddleboards, inflatable watercraft, etc.) or use of oars or paddles are allowed within the swimming area. Pets are allowed at this camp. Depending on how many families bring their dogs, we will have the option for those that don&#39;t wish to be camping near dogs to be set up separately from the pet side of the camp. Please thoughtfully decide if your pet would be a good addition to the camp. We would expect that your dogs are well behaved around humans of all sizes and other animals, that they will not be left unattended in the heat, and would do well in this environment. We would expect that dogs:<ul fr-original-style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 1em; padding-bottom: 1em; list-style: disc;" style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 1em; padding-bottom: 1em; list-style: disc; box-sizing: inherit;"><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Are well behaved around humans of all sizes and other animals</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Do not chase or otherwise stress wildlife</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Are not recurring barkers: It&rsquo;s important to protect the peacefulness of the natural area we will be in, for the sake of our campers, other campers, and the wildlife that lives in this habitat</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Will be OK in the heat we may have</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Per the campground rules: Pets shall be under owner&rsquo;s control and physically restrained by leashes no more than 6 feet in length at all times. Do not leave pets unattended. Pet owners shall put animal waste in plastic bags and either remove it from the premises or dispose of it in trash receptacles.</li></ul> 4. General Expectations Vegan Scouts Campout is a cooperative, community-driven experience where vegan families come together to enjoy the outdoors, connect, and have fun. Our Campout is entirely volunteer-run, and every activity, s&#39;more, and moment is made possible by people generously giving their time and energy. We&rsquo;re all doing our best to create a safe, welcoming, and memorable weekend&mdash;so thank you for pitching in, being kind, and showing patience as we work together to make this Campout special for everyone. As with our other Campouts, if you&#39;re only able to make it for a day or one night, we look forward to seeing you there! Early registration is really helpful for those planning and organizing the camp to ensure we have enough supplies for everyone amongst other things. Optional:&nbsp;Sunday, 8/9, after we pack up camp, we will head to our nearby OCC hike at Trail of Two Forests Interpretive Site. We plan to start the hike at 11:30am for those that want to come up just for the OCC hike. Please fill THIS campout registration out and just note that you&#39;re coming only to the hike so we know to look for you. After that short hike there is the option to continue up the road a couple of minutes to the famous <a fr-original-style="" href="https://www.fs.usda.gov/r06/giffordpinchot/recreation/ape-cave-interpretive-site" rel="noopener noreferrer" style="text-decoration-color: currentcolor; user-select: auto; box-sizing: inherit;" target="_blank">Ape Caves&nbsp;</a> to do the shorter, &frac34; mile, one-way lower cave route to the vegan &#39;meatball&#39;, which is relatively easy and family friendly. *The Ape Caves do require a ticketed reservation for a time slot which costs $2.00 paid on recreation.gov.
