The season opens fittingly with one of Haydn&rsquo;s &ldquo;Sun&rdquo; quartets, a set of works that marks the onset of the modern string quartet era with its introduction of complex counterpoint to the genre. Next is the first of Mozart&rsquo;s three &ldquo;Prussian&rdquo; quartets, spirited and dazzling yet grounded in lyricism, nuance, and grace. The evening ends with Schumann&rsquo;s first foray into the world of quartet writing (dedicated to Mendelssohn).
