A Conversation with Vincent Hall: Preserving Memory and Fighting Erasure in Montgomery Join us for a conversation with remembrance activist Vincent Hall of Montgomery, Alabama. Montgomery was the first capital of the Confederacy and also a key flash point in the Civil Rights Movement. Today, it is at the heart of a struggle between those trying to preserve history and those trying to erase it. Vincent was born and raised in Montgomery. He has dedicated himself to historic preservation, community engagement, and community empowerment, and has a firsthand perspective on the challenges of preserving memory there. He is a member of Widen the Circle’s 2026 Berlin Fellowship cohort and participated in our Deep South Study Trip for Fellowship members in October. He is currently leading the restoration of the Ben Moore Hotel, a landmark in Montgomery’s historic African American neighborhood. The hotel served as a strategic headquarters for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and other civil rights leaders during the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Through this and other local projects, Vincent helps communities shape their own narratives, drawing on stories of truth and resilience to build a sustainable foundation for the future. Register to be part of a thoughtful dialogue on remembrance, community, and the ongoing struggle for civil rights.
