An Important Walk Woof Wag 2026 Update For the past 12 years, Walk Woof Wag has brought our community together to celebrate the animals we love while raising critical funds for the Chico Animal Shelter. Together, we have raised more than $168,000 to help animals who arrive sick, injured, abandoned, or in need of a second chance. Unfortunately, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s Walk Woof Wag festival and walk scheduled for October 24. Earlier this month, the home of Walk Woof Wag’s primary event organizer, Celeste Cramer, was devastated by a fire. Her dogs, Hazel and Boo Bear, were trapped inside and rescued by firefighters. Sadly, Boo suffered severe smoke inhalation and passed away a few days later. With Celeste suddenly displaced from her home, the loss of essentially all of her belongings, and the heartbreaking loss of Boo, it is simply not possible to produce the full Walk Woof Wag festival this year. But while the walk is canceled, our mission is not. The animals at the Chico Animal Shelter still need our help, and we are committed to raising as much money as we can for them in 2026. We are still producing our 2026 commemorative Walk Woof Wag shirts, and we hope you will order a shirt and consider making an additional donation. Your support helps the Chico Animal Shelter provide medical treatment, emergency care, shelter, food, and compassion to animals who have nowhere else to turn. We will also still come together on Friday, October 23 at The Commons for our Walk Woof Wag fundraiser, featuring live music by LoFi Lowdown and commemorative shirt pickup. If you had planned to participate in Walk Woof Wag this year, please consider turning that support into a shirt purchase or donation. The walk may be canceled, but the need has not gone away. Order your 2026 commemorative shirt, make a donation, and help us continue giving Chico’s animals the second chances they deserve.
