This work is inspired by the ability to ask questions, to examine what is truth, what is memory, what is imagination, and to question the usual past-present-future continuum of time. WHAT IF is also inspired by Paul Auster&#39;s 2018 novel &quot;4321&quot;, in which the main character&#39;s life unfolds four different ways along divergent paths shaped by chance and circumstance.How do personal and collective histories shape our present? What if, through technology, we find ourselves face-to-face with our past&mdash;caught in a reconfiguration of a life&#39;s story? In creating the video projections for WHAT IF with their collaborator filmmaker Peter Bobrow, Bridgman and Packer are sourcing their archival videos of work from the past 4-plus decades. What are usually perceived as imperfections of old videos and tv reception&mdash;static, banding, and distortion&mdash;are reimagined in this new work as a graphic element, a visual landscape on stage that the artists can enter and co-exist with their younger selves. They remix, repurpose and transform these archival video clips and also are recreating a sound score sourced from three original musical compositions that had been created for their early works. The sound score includes music by A. Leroy, Naaz Hosseini, and Jeff Cook, remixed, altered, and layered.
