Wormfest 2026 will be held March 20-22 at The Great Saltpetre Preserve!&nbsp; One of our missions as grottos is to promote camaraderie within our caving community and support some of our favorite places to get underground, so the event will be a fundraiser to support our hosts and proceeds will benefit The Great Saltpetre Preserve. This year Wormfest is brought to you by The Bluegrass Grotto (BGG) &amp; The Dayton Underground Grotto (DUG).&nbsp; Your $20 ticket includes Saturday supper (dessert is pot luck) and non-electric camping fee (Extra fees must be paid for electric sites and are available first come, first served). Wormfest t-shirts will be for sale at the event (with waterworms on them!). The cave options for trips may be subject to change and are dependent on respecting land owner preferences, water levels, and bat hibernaculum. There will be several lead trips and information on caves in the area for exploration on your own. Warning! Some caves flood suddenly this time of year (e.g., Mullins Springs, P11, High Water, Sinks). We will update the website and Facebook event page with any changes as it gets closer to the event, but a tentative schedule is below:&nbsp; Friday:<ul fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;"><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">1pm: John Griffin (and agate-hunting in the creek) -&nbsp;John Griffin Cave is a 30 minute drive from the preserve. It&#39;s an easy horizontal cave with fossils, a waterfall, and water this time of year. Outside the cave is a wild stretch of Crooked Creek teeming with wild plants, good birding, and agates eroded out of the limestone upstream by spring rain!</li></ul>Saturday:<ul fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;"><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">10am: Goochland - Goochland is a moderately difficult horizontal cave with more than 20 surveyed miles of passage. Prepare to get wet. </li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">10am: Pit Plunging in Skylight Pit &amp; Hurricane Pit (vertical gear and prior experience required) -&nbsp;Pine hill is a very diverse cave with a total of 5.3 miles of surveyed passage. Many domes from forty feet to over one hundred feet tall intersect the cave in every section. Unfortunately, the main entrance is currently closed, but that can&rsquo;t stop a vertical caver! Bring your climbing system and come pit plunging with us! Bounce and call it, or poke around a bit inside, but remember you can&rsquo;t walk out. You must climb out! Ropes will be set in Skylight and Hurricane pits.</li><li fr-original-style="font-weight: bold;" style="font-weight: bold; box-sizing: inherit;">6pm: Free supper (potluck dessert)</li><li fr-original-style="font-weight: bold;" style="font-weight: bold; box-sizing: inherit;">8pm: Party like a worm with DJ * Bob Dobbs cave trip at night -&nbsp;Bob Dobbs is located on GSP property, but famously hard to find.
