Zoom Workshop: Memory & Aging Considerations for Older Populations

Memory and cognitive disorders are not exclusive to older adults; they can also affect younger individuals, impacting daily life and the therapeutic process. This workshop examines memory changes across the lifespan, differentiating normal aging from cognitive disorders and neuropsychological conditions.

Designed for individuals, caregivers, and mental health professionals, this workshop will explore the science of memory and aging, common myths, and the impact of memory challenges on emotional well-being and clinical presentation in therapy. Participants will learn to identify cognitive disorders, understand their impact on daily life and relationships, and explore strategies to support individuals facing these challenges.

Participants will leave with:

  1. A comprehensive understanding of normal vs. pathological memory changes across the lifespan.

  2. Strategies to support cognitive health in adults and older adults.

  3. Insights into how memory issues can influence clinical presentation and therapeutic approaches.

  4. Practical approaches to support caregivers and families in building resilience and maintaining meaningful relationships with individuals affected by cognitive challenges.

*Disclaimer: This workshop is educational and is not intended to replace medical evaluations or professional diagnoses of cognitive disorders. For concerns about cognitive health, please consult a qualified medical professional.

This workshop will be facilitated via Zoom by Stephanie Tran, M.A., who is a Psy.D. student in Clinical Psychology at Azusa Pacific University. She has completed her coursework and dissertation defense. She is currently completing a clinical internship at Children’s Institute, Inc. in Los Angeles, where she provides mental health services to low-income children and families. Stephanie’s training also includes experience at UCI Institute for Memory Impairments and Neurological Disorders (UCI MIND), a clinical research center specializing in Alzheimer’s disease and memory impairments within an ethnically diverse older adult population. Her work involved administering and interpreting neuropsychological assessments, presenting diagnostic findings in case conferences, and writing integrated reports addressing memory and neurological disorders. Aligned with humanistic/person-centered and psychodynamic theoretical orientations, Stephanie approaches each client with respect for their unique experiences and cultural backgrounds. Driven by a commitment to social equity, she is passionate about working with marginalized communities and promoting cultural awareness within mental health practice, recognizing that understanding each person’s cultural context is critical to meaningful healing. With a passion for cultural diversity and humility, Stephanie’s research interests include multicultural psychology, trauma, and holistic approaches to well-being. Stephanie plans to pursue work in community mental health settings and establish a private practice after licensure and is dedicated to making comprehensive, compassionate care accessible. Stephanie envisions focusing on trauma-related and culturally-informed therapy, as well as providing psychodiagnostic assessments for neurodevelopmental, mood, and personality disorders, including assessments for Alzheimer’s and dementia.

All attendees will receive a Certificate of Attendance from Life Source Training Institute, Inc. This workshop will also provide any practicum students or Associate clinicians with 3 supplementary or professional development hours needed for licensure under the Board of Behavioral Sciences and Board of Psychology.

All proceeds will go directly to our non-profit for program services and reduction of mental health service fees for underprivileged communities. A charity receipt will be generated upon purchase. You can learn more about our organization and mission HERE.
