For years, this Deaf Bahamian woman has had to navigate the U.S. immigration system completely alone. Without access to qualified sign language interpreters, she prepared and filed her own asylum application, attended her asylum interview without legal representation, and has continued trying to understand an incredibly complex legal process that was never accessible to her. Because no one informed her—in a language she could fully understand—that she was eligible to apply for a work permit while her case was pending, she has been unable to work and support herself. Today, she is in removal proceedings. If she is forced to return to the Bahamas, she fears for her safety because of the persecution and discrimination she has experienced. Hands United is now providing all sign language interpreting services for her case completely pro bono, ensuring that, for the first time, she has meaningful access to communicate with her attorney and fully participate in her own immigration proceedings. We are raising funds to help cover her legal representation. Every dollar donated goes toward giving her the opportunity to present her case fairly and with the legal support she deserves. Your donation will help provide:

Legal representation in immigration court

Preparation for hearings and legal filings

Accessible communication throughout her case

A chance to remain safe in the United States

No one should have to fight for their future without being able to understand what is happening. Thank you for standing with Deaf immigrants and helping ensure that language access is never the reason someone loses their chance at safety.Every donation, no matter the size, makes a difference.

Help a Deaf Bahamian Woman Fight for Safety
