Coalition Connects: Business Basics for Child Care Centers and Family Child Care Homes

As the number of child care program closures continues to rise across North Carolina, the NC Early Education Coalition is partnering with Self‑Help Credit Union in Durham to bring critical resources and technical assistance to providers statewide. While closures are increasing, we also know that communities across NC urgently need more child care slots. Waiting lists are long, and “child care deserts” are emerging in many counties. North Carolina’s child care professionals are highly skilled and deeply committed to delivering quality early childhood education. Their passion is unmatched, and many communities and businesses recognize child care as essential economic infrastructure. So where is the disconnect?Child care programs are, at their core, small businesses. They must operate with a clear understanding of the cost of delivering care and the revenue required to sustain it. If these concepts feel new or overwhelming, we encourage you to join our upcoming webinar, “Business Basics for Child Care.” This session will introduce practical tools and resources designed specifically for child care operators. You’ll receive materials from Self‑Help Credit Union and your local Small Business Center to support business planning, budgeting, and financial decision‑making. We will walk through information that helps you accurately project expenses and revenue—demystifying the business side of child care and giving you confidence in your financial operations. Thinking about expanding your program to meet community demand? A solid financial analysis is the first step. We’ll show you how to use simple tools to determine whether expansion is a sound investment—and where to find support as you weigh your options.Bring your financial questions to the webinar. We will reserve time for discussion and address issues specific to your program. Workshop Facilitator: Beth Turner, Senior Business Development Officer, Self‑Help Credit Union, Durham, NC Participants will receive 1 DCDEE Credit Hour after completing the evaluation survey. Thank you to our sponsors Tandem and Lakeshore!
