Prodigal Daughter takes a deep, personal look into the immigrant experience through the eyes of the filmmaker and ex punk artist and reasons of why we migrate. After 16 years of silence, Valdiviezo reunites with her family in Peru, confronting haunting childhood memories, her youth in war-torn Peru, and a troubled past as an undocumented immigrant in the United States. Through the lens of gender and immigration, the documentary offers intimate access to Valdiviezo and her vibrant photo-paintings of her family, weaving a powerful narrative about family bonds, identity, belonging, and the transformative power of art. Stay after for a virtual Q&A with the director and guest speaker Dr. Mariela Pajuelo, to hear behind-the-scenes stories and ask your questions.
