A blue jay perches on a person's finger against a blurred background of green foliage.

We promise, this bird will be back at work, but he needs your support! WOOOOOOOOOAH! Our star blue jay has gone viral, but for us at the McGill Bird Observatory, bird conservation is a round-the-clock effort. More than 1,000 blue jays have been banded over the past 20 years, with the oldest being 11 years old! To ensure that Mordecai and all his fellow blue jays can continue to fly safely over our parks, your support is essential! Our observatory, a member of the Canadian Migration Monitoring Network, is located on the Island of Montreal. Our research projects focus on the rigorous monitoring of bird migration and movements, biodiversity conservation, and education. Every donation helps us immensely in carrying out this critical mission. Your contribution will be directly invested in :

Salaries for the professional banders in charge

The purchase of mist nets and scientific banding equipment

Ecological maintenance of our research site

Training for our indispensable volunteers and interns

Rigorous management of scientific data and permits

Organizing group tours, lectures, and educational programs

Thank you for your support and interest in our blue jay!
