Project Kindness

What is CMLS's Project Kindness?

Project Kindness is about getting together, having fun, and giving back.  This is the summer to make up for all the fun missed over the last two years.  It will also be about raising funds for Kindred Foundation to support childhood cancer research.

What is Happening During Project Kindness?

Project Kindness will run throughout June and July, and will finish with a final big event on August 13th -- a bike, run or walk along the Toronto Waterfront Trail.  Leading up to the final event, there will be different events like a carnival, silent auction, and the very popular "pie-in-the-face".

What are We Fundraising for?

Kindred Foundation has partnered with five charities across Canada who are working to create a research grant for Canadian oncologists treating children with cancerous embryonal brain tumours.  Your donations will help us reach our goal of raising $300,000 to support life-changing research for these children.

Cancerous brain tumours in children are the second most common pediatric cancer, and the most deadly. Childhood embryonal brain tumours develop from cells that are left over from when the embryo was forming in the womb.  These are cells that have remained in the brain after the child is born.  In most children, these cells are harmless; however, in some children these cells become cancerous.

Canadian oncologists and researchers have significant expertise in pediatric embryonal brain tumours that is recognized worldwide.  Further funding is needed to better understand how to treat these childhood brain cancers and maintain Canada’s leadership on the world stage in this area of childhood cancer.

One of the partner charities for the childhood brain cancer grant is The Miracle Marnie Foundation.  Marnie is a remarkable young girl who was diagnosed at the age of 2 with an embryonal brain tumour called ETMR.  Her story explains why funding research into these childhood brain tumours is so important.
