The music, the decor, the friends and most of all your gown.In some cases your very first gown. The high school prom is a celebration of a youths academic achievement and the beginning of their launch into adulthood. In 1998, while preparing my daughter for her prom, I took some time to consider other youth, whose proms were approaching.  Later, that thought was enhanced by my own circumstances and surroundings. During this time I was homeless and living in a shelter, with other struggling families who had teenagers anticipating their proms. I wanted to help in some way.   But what was it they needed in order to attend? People gave gowns, money, shoes, etc. I even had people mail me gowns from out of state just to help benefit an attendee. I took those collected items and traveled from high schools to high schools distributing  gowns/ tuxedos , shoes and jewelry from  the trunk of my car.
