American Chemical Society

The American Chemical Society San Gorgonio Section fosters collaboration among chemistry educators, promoting best practices and community engagement through events and networking opportunities to enhance chemistry education in the region.

Abstract: &nbsp;As climate change intensifies, we need to better understand how food crops respond to sudden and extreme climate change events, such as flooding and drought. This talk will introduce how varieties of rice are able to adapt to changing ecosystems to help provide a more stable food source. &nbsp;We will also introduce and explore Mass Spectrometry as an instrument that is on the front lines of the race to help our food infrastructure adapt to our changing planet. Luncheon Menu: Drink (choice of coffee, tea, lemonade, or soft drink), Choice of Sandwich Duo: (soup or salad) and Sandwich (Turkey Royal, or five-way grilled cheese, or grilled chicken Ciabatta, or tuna &amp; cheddar melt), or Slow-roasted Turkey; or French Dip, or Asian Salad, or French Quarter burger.&nbsp; The cost is $20 for non-members, $15 for ACS members, and $10 for retirees and students.

Every contribution, of any size, strengthens our local chemistry community and encourages the next generation of chemists.

Donate to the ACS San Gorgonio Section's Scholarship Fund

Join us for a casual mixer for chemistry faculty in the San Gorgonio Section! We will be meeting at Hangar 24 in Riverside. It is always fun to get together with other professors and share best practices and stories from our various campuses. Your registration includes pizza and one beer/drink. Spouses and partners are welcome and can register as well. We are unable to offer refunds. Please register by 10/8 at 5 pm.
