Seed Feeds the City is a community-powered mutual aid initiative by Seed Theatre dedicated to addressing food insecurity with dignity, accessibility, and care. This program mobilizes volunteers, local partners, and donors to stock community fridges, distribute meals, and provide essential pantry and hygiene items to those in need. Centered in equity and collective responsibility, Seed Feeds the City transforms small, consistent acts of giving into a sustainable network of support—ensuring that no one in our community goes without food, resources, or compassion. When added with product donations from retail corporations and a food reclamation process incorporating city schools and produce warehouses along with private partners, there is plenty to go around if we work together. Seed's goal in 2026 is to add a standing pantry that is available to be shopped on specific days - like the Chattanooga Free Store in terms of allowing patrons to choose their own items, but food and hygiene centric instead of clothing and household goods. This allows Seed to fill in the gaps and add a "grocery store" of sorts to Alton Park which is a food desert (and now Food City in St Elmo is closing too!) $1000/mo of recurring donations (on this specific project instead of to Seed overall) will allow us to rent another suite at Chattanooga Civic Center in Alton Park, and convert it into a pantry with several refrigeration units and a full hygiene selection -- Barrier free and at no cost. This money would pay rent for the space as well as provide $250/mo for basic pantry items like canned beans and meats
