LXCL:Blackout Theatre's mission is to engage and ignite community. Founded in 2007, Blackout is one of New Mexico's oldest theatre ensembles, creating original sketch comedy, improv, new works, immersive theatre and multimedia productions. We create work by, for, and centering on New Mexican voices, stories, cultures, traditions, and values.

Blackout Theatre Company is pleased to announce the world premiere of a new play by New Mexican Playwright Leonard Madrid. Santa Beva is a brand-new comedy following Beva Romero, a Barele&ntilde;a whose normal life turns upside-down when she spontaneously starts performing miracles. She is visited by two rude angels, in the guise of her two favorite cousins, who inform her that she&#39;s going to be a saint. The play is about self-acceptance, New Mexican culture, and the unbreakable bond of primos. And this year, we&rsquo;re thrilled to share the host seat with Theatre 3!&nbsp; The 24/7 is a proud Blackout tradition bringing together theatre companies, performance ensembles, and schools from across New Mexico for a whirlwind 24 hours of theatre-making. 7 teams assemble Friday night, equipped with one rule that all teams must follow and one prop for another team to use. Join us for our next&nbsp;free&nbsp;workshop, open to writers and creatives of all experience levels!&nbsp; CRITIQUE FOR REVISION &nbsp;Facilitated by Caroline Toby Graham&nbsp;Friday, March 27, 6:30 - 9:00 PM&nbsp;Orpheum Community Hub &nbsp; Workshop Description:Participants will learn techniques for offering and soliciting specific, practical, supportive critique. This workshop demystifies feedback to alleviate creative anxiety and treat critique as a friend, not a failure. This is a free event from First Leap, Blackout Theatre&#39;s new works program providing page-to-stage support for New Mexican storytellers. Space is limited; registration is first-come, first served. About the Instructor:&nbsp;Caroline Toby Graham is a playwright, dramaturg, and performer with nearly 15 years of experience in new works development. They hold an MFA in Dramatic Writing from UNM and currently serve as Artistic Director of Blackout Theatre.

First Leap Workshop: Critique for Revision

Blackout Theatre Company proudly presents the return of The Monologists, a series of one-person shows created and performed by New Mexico playwrights. These short pieces, performed across two evenings, explore identity, history, magic, and what makes someone a hero or brands them a monster. The second evening will also include works created in 24 hours based on suggestions from the previous night&rsquo;s audience. Featuring A. Blackout Theatre Company is pleased to announce the return of its long-running sketch comedy series with Blackout Tonight: The Late Late (But Not Too Late) Show with James Jimmy! Join our C-list talk show host, James Jimmy, as he desperately tries to boost his ratings with interviews, games, gimmicks, and a &ldquo;live&rdquo; jazz band. Blackout Tonight: The Late Late (But Not Too Late) Show with James Jimmy! performs at CNM&rsquo;s Coal Avenue Theatre (The CAT) on December 12th and 13th at 7:00 pm, and December 14th at 1:00 pm. Tickets are Pay What You Will with a suggested price of $10.

Join us for the first free&nbsp;workshop of our season, open to writers and creatives of all experience levels!&nbsp; CREATIVE WORLD BUILDING&nbsp;Facilitated by Steve Blacksmith&nbsp;Wednesday, September 17, 6:30 - 8:30 PM&nbsp;Tractor - Wells Park conference room&nbsp; Workshop Description:Through an analysis of story structure and characters, participants will learn how to build extensive worlds for any story.&nbsp; This is a free event from First Leap, Blackout Theatre&#39;s new works program providing page-to-stage support for New Mexican storytellers. Space is limited; registration is first-come, first served. About the Instructor:&nbsp;Steve Blacksmith is a writer, theatremaker and filmmaker. He holds an MFA in Dramatic Writing and teaches in the Film &amp; Digital Arts department at the University of New Mexico. &nbsp;

Blackout Theatre Company proudly presents Blackout 2nite 4ever, celebrating two decades of sketch comedy and improv! Founded in 2007, Blackout is one of New Mexico&rsquo;s oldest ensemble theatre companies. Blackout 2nite 4ever&nbsp;kicks off our 20th anniversary season with brand-new sketches and old classics brought to you by a hilarious cast of current and former Blackout members including Ericka Olvera, Chris Walsh, Steve Blacksmith, Hailey Tolleson, Caroline Toby Graham, and director Gavin Barrera.&nbsp; Please note that the Sunday, August 30th matinee is a masked-attendance show. In an effort to expand accessibility to live arts programming in ABQ, all audience members and non-performing staff will be required to wear a mask at the August 30th performance. Blackout will have a limited supply of free masks available at the box office!
