This presentation is based on Dr. Alan Wolfelt&rsquo;s model of the 11 tenets of companioning the bereaved. In our conversation we will explore loss, grief, and sorrow as fundamental experiences of transformation, deepening, and growth. BVP Understanding My Grief workshop July 2026

In recognition of National Indigenous History Month and Pride Month, and in support of BVP&#39;s commitment to inclusion and belonging, we invite you to join us for an Inclusive Language Workshop.&nbsp; Language plays an important role in how we connect with one another and create welcoming environments. This interactive session will explore how our everyday words and assumptions can impact others, while providing practical tools for respectful and inclusive communication. Through discussion, reflection, and real-life examples, participants will build greater awareness of diverse identities and experiences, strengthen their inclusive communication skills, and gain insights that can be applied in both workplace and community settings. This workshop will be facilitated by our very own Program Manager, Avery Levesque. Avery is a proud trans human who brings both lived experience and professional insight to this conversation. Having navigated spaces where he has not always felt seen, included, or accepted for who he is, Avery is passionate about fostering understanding, respect, and belonging. He will share perspectives and practical tools to help participants build more inclusive and welcoming environments for everyone. We welcome all volunteers to participate in this opportunity to learn, reflect, and contribute to a culture where everyone feels valued, respected, and included. Zentangle is a meditative art form where users create abstract designs by drawing repetitive patterns, often on small tiles, using a combination of dots, lines, and curves. This method is designed to be relaxing and stress-reducing, encouraging focus and mindfulness through the repetitive motion of drawing.&nbsp; More about our facilitator:&nbsp;Niki Fehr is the Program Director at Wellspring Alberta. She is an inclusive leader committed to community building and evidence-informed programming for people living with cancer. She is also a young adult cancer survivor herself. She specialized in creating safe spaces for people who have experienced trauma. Niki has been in non-profit leadership for over 15 years. Niki has been engaged in the arts her whole life. BVP Understanding My Grief workshop September 2026

Bow Valley Palliative and Covenant Health are collaborating together to bring a 6-week series which will invite participants to explore key aspects of the experience of grief. Participants may enroll in all six sessions or select those topics of most interest.&nbsp; The first session of the series we explore the Five Gates of Grief, A way to name loss and experience grief developed by the psychotherapist and author Francis Weller.&nbsp; These gates open pathways into the many layers of sorrow we carry &mdash; from personal loss, unmet longing, and ancestral pain to the grief we hold for the world itself. Together, we&rsquo;ll gently navigate these landscapes of emotion and discover how grief, when honored, can become a source of connection, meaning, and inner strength.&nbsp;&nbsp;This session will also include creative approaches to healing, such as: - Developing ritual and ceremony to help hold and express grief - A guided Healing Meditation designed to support emotional integration - Practices that cultivate grounding, compassion, and inner peace Whether your grief is fresh or long-carried, you are welcome in this space. Come as you are &mdash; and allow yourself to be held by community, self-reflection, and the possibility of renewal. &nbsp;
