Campfire Film Cooperative fosters creativity by uniting filmmakers, musicians, and visual artists to explore the synergy of sound and moving images. Through innovative performances and collaborative projects, they aim to enrich the cultural landscape.

The Ear and the Eye welcomes Taqsim, the Detroit-based duo of Layan Srour and Yvonne Pruneau, for an immersive live audiovisual performance where music and moving images are created together in real time.Named after the Arabic word for &quot;improvisation,&quot; Taqsim draws from field recordings captured throughout Lebanon, modular synthesizers, drum machines, layered electronics, and thoughtfully composed moving-image environments to create immersive worlds where sound and visuals evolve together. Structured as a series of interconnected movements, the performance explores the body through four emotional and sensory states: Suffocation, Dissonance, Sublime, and Volition. Each movement centers on an individual micro-performance by Srour and Pruneau, inviting audiences to inhabit a distinct mood before the work converges into a unified audiovisual finale. Rooted in improvisation, every performance responds to the unique energy of the room.At the heart of Taqsim&#39;s work is a simple yet profound question: What does home sound like? Through experimental composition, personal field recordings, and evocative visual landscapes, they explore home not only as a place, but as memory, emotion, and connection. For Srour, &quot;sound is the most underrated form of memory.&quot; Pruneau embraces the unpredictability of live performance, describing it as &quot;the exact kind of naked beauty that I crave.&quot; Together, they create an experience where sound and image become living expressions of remembrance, resilience, and belonging. The audience is encouraged to experience the performance in whatever way feels most comfortable. The Ear and the Eye Presents: Taqsim

An evening of avant-garde film and music at the Cadieux Stage.&nbsp; THE EAR AND THE EYE is a monthly performance series that brings together musicians, filmmakers, and visual artists to explore the expansive relationship between sound and moving image. &nbsp;This edition leans into themes of improvisation, chaos, destruction and rebirth. The Old Explorer&rsquo;s Club | Max Lovy | 25 min | super 8mm to Digital. A musical and visual album that takes the viewer through vibrant abstract portraits of growing up, and the death of the past self. All soundtracked by cello, saxophone, piano, and collaging samples from Max&rsquo;s life.&nbsp; I&rsquo;m the Very Midst of the Fall | Michael Hubbard | 1 hr | super 8mm A montage-epitaph. The movement of a consciousness is unfounded, searching for an impossible arrival. Construction and demolition become sites of the parasuicidal transformations upon which one may attempt to transcend, experience seizure, or nothing at all. &nbsp;With musical accompaniment from Chris Peters (Battle Elf), Chad Morgan-Sterenberg (La Dispute) and Jared Talaga (Moondog Cafe) Bios: Michael Hubbard is a filmmaker and photographer based in Detroit, who through a hybrid of destructive actions and chance methods emphasizes film as a violent, rhythmic material to act upon in the pursuit of a full presence in a moment, which has been lost or never once existed. Hubbard embraces this epitaphic nature of the medium and engages in the dissolution of subject matter to represent the contradictory, visceral, neurotic, and beautiful experience of the non-situated conscious and non-existent, veiled unconscious. He received his BFA in Film at Detroit&rsquo;s College for Creative Studies in 2023 and his MFA at Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2026. Max Lovy is a Detroit-based filmmaker, raised in Traverse City, Michigan. His work is based around capturing real, raw moments in an intentionally lo-fi and analogue style, such as utilizing Super 8 film and tape recorders. This gives a fragility, and churning quality to the work, some call it deeply upsetting, others find it beautiful. He received his BFA from the College for Creative Studies in May 2026. Jared Talaga is an integral part of the Detroit music scene and original founder of Moondog Cafe. Jared can be found sitting behind the mixing desk, a self-made buchla synthesizer, or a heavily effected Fender Rhodes piano. Chad Morgan-Sterenberg is a guitarist, multi-instrumentalist, and pedal maker who has spent the last two decades touring with the post-hardcore band La Dispute. Chris Peters has been playing with and connecting musicians in the Detroit area for decades, producing instantly recognizable sounds from his double neck, prepared guitar. The Ear and The Eye - July Edition

Cinema, community, connection. Our three-part series in collaboration with the Weekly Watchlist creates a space for Metro Detroit&rsquo;s independent cinema owners, audiences, and filmmakers to come together. Detroit New Wave - The Rise of Cinema Culture in Metro Detroit - Part 1

THE EAR AND THE EYE is thrilled to return September 18 with a new collaborative film and music performance by Columbus, Ohio based filmmaker&nbsp;Roger Beebe and members of&nbsp;Ann Arbor&rsquo;s Soft Knee Collective. Working with multiple projectors, found images, and the &ldquo;found&rdquo; landscapes of late capitalism, Roger Beebe creates essayistic films and live cinematic performances that reconsider the images and environments surrounding us. His work has appeared around the globe at such unlikely venues as the CBS Jumbotron in Times Square and McMurdo Station in Antarctica as well as more likely ones including Sundance and the Museum of Modern Art with solo shows at Anthology Film Archives, El Centro de Cultura Digital in Mexico City, and Los Angeles Filmforum among many more. For this special performance, Beebe will join Soft Knee Collective members Mara Mayer, Otavio Manzano Kavakama, Roberta Michel, and Johnathan Tatara to create a new work bringing moving images and live music into conversation. Soft Knee Collective is an electroacoustic flexible-instrumentation new music ensemble and creator collective of composers, performers, electronic musicians, and collaborators from an array of disciplines, including music technology, science, visual arts, and design. They create platforms for artists whose voices and work may not always find a place within traditional music spaces. Through collaboration, SKC builds connections across disciplines, support emerging and underrepresented voices, and foster a vibrant creative community. At the heart of their work is a commitment to curiosity and shared experience. Soft Knee Collective design welcoming, inclusive events that invite audiences into the creative process through immersive performances, interdisciplinary projects, and meaningful artistic exchange. Together, Beebe and SKC embody what lies at the heart of THE EAR AND THE EYE, artists crossing boundaries and discovering new possibilities where sound and moving image meet.
