Barn Quilt Painting Class with Kathy and Stan Tucker of K&amp;S Quilt Artistry&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Barn quilts are a unique form of Americana folk art. Class facilitators Stan and Kathy Tucker from K&amp;S Quilting fell in love with Barn Quilts while living in West Virginia. You will too! &nbsp; They will be facilitating this unique art form on August 21st. The cost is $99.00 for all the supplies and guided instruction.&nbsp; Participants will be able to complete their projects in this one-day class, from eight choices of Barn Quilt patterns. Each class member will receive a 24&quot; x 24&quot; piece of aluminum composite material (ACM) pre-primed for painting and sketched with their chosen design. In addition, all will receive a digital outline and a colorized digital drawing of the chosen pattern to assist with the project. There are several color choices available to paint your Barn Quilt. August 2026 - Barn Quilt Painting Class

&nbsp;Quilted garments are having a moment&mdash;from trendy quilt coats to one-of-a-kind wearable art. In this informative lecture, you&#39;ll learn practical tips and techniques for selecting the right garment pattern, choosing or creating a quilt suitable for garment construction, and planning a layout for maximum visual impact. We&#39;ll discuss the advantages and considerations of working with family heirloom quilts, quilts from your personal stash, purchased quilts, and custom-made quilted fabric. You&#39;ll also explore how quilted fabric influences garment construction, including seam and pocket placement, facings, interfacing, thread and needle selection, and professional finishing methods. Whether you dream of transforming a treasured quilt into a coat or designing a unique wearable art piece, this class will give you the knowledge and confidence to create a quilted garment you&#39;ll be proud to wear. Duration Approximately 4 hours, including a review of pattern examples and garments constructed with quilted fabric. After learning the basics, class participants will have hands-on practice with an instructor provided quilt and pattern to suggest a workable layout. Instructor Carol Gaas began her sewing journey as young garment designer crafting charmingly imperfect Barbie clothes&mdash;an early experiment that ignited a lifelong passion for construction, fit, and creativity. Through years of hands-on practice, trial and error, and formal instruction, she discovered that garment sewing is both an art form and a deeply satisfying craft. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she expanded into quilting through online learning and expanded her skills further after joining the Coastal Prairie Quilt Guild, where she immersed herself in the broader quilting community. Over time, her two passions&mdash;garment making and quilt construction&mdash;naturally merged into a cohesive focus on quilted wearable art. Her work has been featured in the guild&#39;s monthly Show and Share as well as QuiltCon fashion events. Most notably, her reversible quilted skirt, Sea Anemone Skirt, was juried into the 2025 Wisconsin Quilt Show and showcased on the runway&mdash;a testament to her distinctive approach to combining structure, texture, and storytelling in wearable design. Tone on tone cottons and Batiks are great for this technique--this is a very small wall hanging requiring very small pieces of fabric. See picture below. **Kit&nbsp;&bull; &nbsp; &nbsp;1 pair of small scissors for intricate paper and fabric cutting **Kit&nbsp;&bull; &nbsp; &nbsp;1 New Elmer&rsquo;s &ldquo;Purple&rdquo; washable glue stick - works great on fabric! **Kit&nbsp;&bull; &nbsp; &nbsp;___ Sewing machine that is capable of a small zigzag stitch (and optional open toe foot-see picture below) or foot for zigzag-that comes with your machine. Foot pedal &amp; power cord. Featherweights are a challenge for this technique, so I don&rsquo;t recommend bringing one. I like Reynolds Freezer Paper for these reasons: it sticks when ironed, you can see through it, and it can be re-ironed. Each has a different look. The look of this quilt is limited only by your imagination.&rdquo; Fussy cutting center pieces adds to the variety and energy of the quilt. She teaches a pinning technique that lets quilters check before stitching to ensure they aren&rsquo;t cutting off points.This workshop offers a choice of three sizes of a square Giant Dahlia quilt 35 inch, 45 inch and 60 inch. Its gentle curves are quick to piece by either hand or machine. The variations in effect achieved by color placement in this quilt are only limited by your imagination. Join Annie for a creative journey where traditional meets modern, and let your imagination bloom with beautiful, whimsical designs!</li></ul> Contemporary Machine Applique: Modern Love applique wall-hanging            Finished quilt: 42” x 44”  Supply List Background fabrics ● 1 yard of solid neutral background fabric (I used light gray) ● 12” x 36” of a medium fabric that is complementary to your background -- this fabric should be darker than your background fabric (I used medium gray) ● One ⅓ yard of fabric for the bottom base -- vases or pots will go on this (If you want to add them to your quilt - this is optional. See the photos for the sample.)  Fabrics for the applique shapes -- solids and monochromatic (one color) prints that read like a solid comprised of the following colors and sizes – And, make sure that all of your chosen fabrics are darker than your background fabric. The following fabrics for the applique shapes are a suggestion – please choose the colors that YOU are interested in. You just need to have the same amounts of fabric, and your color assortment.  Fat quarters of the following: ● Greens – medium ● Dark gray ● Two Turquoise and two Aqua (the Aqua will be lighter than the turquoise) ● Pink – light, medium and dark ● One multi-color print (this will be for the center pot)  Fat eighths of the following: ● Medium purple and dark purple for dragonflies ● Orange - medium and dark ● Yellow - light and medium ● Green - lighter than the medium value above Notions and accessories: ● I’ll supply a sewing machine needle for you to match your thread weight ● Small precision Scissors (I prefer to use small scissors with a sharp point for cutting the applique shapes. My favorites are Elan Patchwork E6 scissors for fabric. I will have some of these for sale.) ● Ball head pins ● Iron and pressing surface (unless the Guild will provide them.) ● Rotary cutter, ruler and cutting mat ● A glue stick (office supply type) ● Spools of thread to match one of your applique fabrics -- either Aurifil 28 wt or 50 weight cotton thread (like Mettler). Please do not use “old” thread for your project (i.e.: Thread that is from your mom’s sewing basket, etc.). I’ll have some 12 weight cotton threads for sale, just in case you have a difficult time finding threads before the workshop. We *will* be sewing in class. ● Sewing Machine (your sewing machine should have a zigzag, blind hem stitch or blanket stitch) with power cord and foot pedal. Have the manual for your sewing machine handy, so you know how to dial in the stitch you want to use. ● Empty bobbins (one for each thread color) ● An open toe applique foot (if you own a BERNINA, you’ll need a #20, 20C or 20D) for your sewing machine. It is essential in the finished product of this method to use this specific foot. If you try to just use what you have, you will be disappointed in the outcome. If you’re not sure what this looks like, please email me at the email address below, and I’ll send you a photo.  The kit includes the pattern for the quilt, fusible web sheets, pencil, a self-threading hand sewing needle and sewing machine needle, and other notions used for the project. I’ll also bring starch for everyone to use. You will have some pre-workshop cutting (minimal) so more can be accomplished in the workshop.  Here are the cutting instructions: Four-piece flowers (Turquoise and Aqua): ● Cut one strip of each of the four fabrics in 2½” by 12” strips ● Cut one 2½” x 4½” strip from each of the fabrics.  Two-piece flowers (Pinks, purples and Orange): ● Cut the other flower fabrics - 12” long and make them varying thicknesses. For example: 1½” wide, 2 ½” wide, 3½” wide.  For the leaves: ● Cut four strips of each green, 2½” by 12” long  We’ll sew these in class. She lives in Double Oak, Texas, where she stays busy in her garden when she is not quilting." <ul><li style="box-sizing:inherit">Free-Motion Thread Painting on a Photograph - Carol uses a variety of free-motion stitching techniques to enhance the colors and provide texture to her photo. She provides a photo that has been professionally printed on fabric (nominal fee). This workshop is a perfect way to gain confidence with free-motion techniques! The resulting "embroidered" piece is lovely enough to frame! </li></ul> Thread Painting for Beginners by Carol MorrisseySupply ListBring your sewing machine. It should be in good working order and you should be familiar with the features ofthe machine (how to thread it, how to adjust the upper and lower tension, how to wind and replace the bobbin,how to lower the feed dogs, how to replace the needle, etc.). The machine should have the option to disengage(lower) the feed dogs. Please bring the darning foot (sometimes called a hopping foot, open-toe embroideryfoot or free-motion quilting foot) as this foot is essential for free motion quilting/thread painting. Please beaware that I am not familiar with all the different brands of sewing machines.If your sewing machine does not have a good, built-in light, I suggest bringing a light so that you can see yourproject very clearly. In addition to the sewing machine, please bring the following items:Size 12 or 14 machine embroidery needles. If you have size 12 or 14 (or even size 16) quilting or topstitchneedles already on hand, you can try those, too. Bobbins filled with your favorite bobbin thread in a light neutral and a dark neutral like gray or taupe. Basic sewing supplies for machine sewing, including small scissors (bring curved blade embroidery scissors ifyou already have them, but don’t buy them just for this class). You won’t need any pins, but you might need aseam ripper…or maybe not. ;-)Pencil and note paper. An assortment of thread colors appropriate for the flowers printed on fabric (photo below). I will bring thread toshare with you during class in case you discover that you don’t have a color you need. Any brand, weight, ortype of thread that your machine likes is suitable. Here is a small photo of our flowers printed on fabric (actualpiece measures about 7” x 10”). A thread stand if you have one. If you ever have problems with thread tangling, knotting, breaking or generallybinding up in any way, go ahead and invest in a thread stand and you’ll be glad you did!I will provide the following items ($10.00 supply fee):1.
