The Comics Appreciation Project Inc. (CAP) is a 501c3 nonprofit promoting the use of graphic novels as both an effective tool for engaging struggling readers and a legitimate medium for instilling a lifelong joy of reading. We want to engage and support all young readers, especially those in crisis. We currently partner with sixteen (16) DFCS offices and several children’s hospitals to provide thousands of graphic novels to comfort displaced children in medical crisis and foster care. Children receive our Share-Care Book boxes containing three (3) award-winning age-appropriate graphic novels and a message of hope. Our books are carefully selected and required to have achieved both industry and literary awards. Research has shown that graphic novels can enhance reading comprehension, reading engagement, empathy, and self-identification (as readers) for young people. Our firm belief is that stories have the power to comfort, inspire, and help process life's challenges. We want to help kids find those stories and make their own. You can sponsor a Share-Care Box for a child for only $20 (which includes three award-winning age-appropriate popular graphic novels). You can also select which partnering agency to receive your box.
