The Boxx-Barr Bursary Fund is a program of the Dogwood Monarchist Society, founded by Emperor Scotty B. Boxx and Emprex Karmella Barr. The bursaries are awarded to support the educational pursuits of 2SLGBTQIA+ community members in British Columbia.About the DMS:The Dogwood Monarchist Society has operated as a non-profit society in British Columbia since 1972. The group’s primary mandate is to raise money for British Columbia’s registered 2SLGBTQIA+ charities and to provide social opportunities for Vancouver’s queer community and their supporters.Both Scotty & Karmella are deeply passionate about education and recognize the financial challenges it can pose. This bursary aims to alleviate some of that burden, offering support and allowing recipients to focus on their studies and bring their best selves to their post-secondary programs while being recognized as a members of the community. Bursaries are awarded to select aspiring leaders in the community in the pursuit of their educational endeavours.We are very aware that this bursary is functioning on the unceded territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. It is with this in minds that the Boxx-Barr Bursary is dedicated to annually distributing funds to applicants of diverse experiences, but emphasizing Indigenous,Black,Women and Gender-Diverse communities.
