Friday, September 18, 2026 from 6pm&ndash;8:30pm Get ready for a little spooky-season creativity! Join us for a fun, hands-on ceramic painting workshop where you&rsquo;ll create your very own ghost to take home that night. Whether you&rsquo;re a seasoned painter or just looking for a creative night out, come make something delightfully spooky with us. Your unpainted ceramic piece will be ready for you to transform with paint, lights, flowers, embellishments and your own creative flair. No two ghosts have to look alike! Ceramic Ghost Workshop 9/18/26

Discover the art and craft of making books by hand in this monthly workshop series. Thursdays from 6:00pm-8:00pm. Each session introduces new techniques and materials, building skills to expand your creative and technical repertoire. Along the way, students will learn to handle papers, adhesives, threads, and cover materials with confidence, while gaining insight into both traditional and contemporary bookmaking approaches.&nbsp; Students will also have the opportunity to discuss upcoming topics and materials during each session, ensuring that everyone is well prepared for the next month&rsquo;s project. Whether you&rsquo;re a beginner drawn to handmade books or an experienced artist looking to refine your binding skills, this series offers a rewarding exploration of craftsmanship, creativity, and the timeless beauty of the book form. Each workshop is it&rsquo;s own lesson, meaning you do not need to take prior workshops if a topic is of interest to you. Sep. 17 - Restoring and Recovering: Replacing covers on case-bound books with cloth and paper. If you have a treasured book that is falling apart, this class will teach you to strip it of its old cover, replace or recover the old, and then rebind the book afresh. Please bring an old book, one you&rsquo;d like to give a new life! Students will leave with a newly-recovered book. Downriver Creates 2026 Online Auction

Tuesdays from 6:30-7:30pmFall Session 1 - 4 weeks: 9/8, 9/15, 9/22, 9/29 Designed for fans of anime, manga, comics and cartoons. The anime art form, having originated in Japan in the early 1900s, is a uniquely stylized form of two- and three-dimensional illustration and animation. Teacher will lead lessons with step-by-step instruction via one-on-one and group interactions. Students will learn essential drawing techniques as well as outlining and coloring to create a completed work of art. Develop the skills you need to make the anime and manga art you love! Bring pencils or markers and sketchbooks. Open to all skill levels. Students will enjoy interacting with other anime fans in the class. Anime Academy - starts 9/8/26

Through still life studies and realism exercises, students will learn the drawing process step-by-step, beginning with basic shapes, layout, and composition before refining proportions and adding detail. Artists will practice contour line drawing, value studies, shading techniques, and colored pencil realism while learning how to revise and strengthen their work throughout the creative process. With a focus on patience, observation, and artistic confidence, students will create detailed drawings while developing a strong understanding of form, light, and composition. Students work with a wide range of materials and approaches including drawing, painting, mixed media, sculpture, and more, while learning essential art vocabulary, techniques, and design concepts. Projects are guided by experienced art educators and working artists who encourage curiosity, problem solving, and personal expression. Students complete multiple artworks during the session and bring their creations home along the way. All supplies are included. Urban Sketching &amp; Plein Air Drawing Class **Please note - due to air quality precautions, we are going to move the start of this class to 7/25 and end on 8/29. Saturdays 9:30am-12:30pm: 7/18, 7/25, 8/1, 8/8, 8/15, 8/22 Discover the beauty and character of historic Wyandotte through observational sketching. Students will explore downtown streets, architecture, parks, and riverfront views while learning urban sketching and plein air drawing techniques. Through demonstrations, guided exercises, and on-location sketching, participants will build skills in composition, perspective, line work, shading, and visual storytelling using pencil, charcoal, and optional watercolor. Designed for all skill levels, this class helps students gain confidence drawing on location while creating a personal urban sketchbook. No prior drawing experience is required. Each class, we will meet at the DCA for a discussion, slideshow and demonstration for about 30 mins. Then we will spend approximately 2 hours on location drawing and/or painting. PORTRAIT ILLUSTRATION - starts 7/15/26

Fairy House in a Book Workshop 6/22/26

Discover the art and craft of making books by hand in this monthly workshop series. Thursdays from 6:00pm-8:00pm. Each session introduces new techniques and materials, building skills to expand your creative and technical repertoire. Along the way, students will learn to handle papers, adhesives, threads, and cover materials with confidence, while gaining insight into both traditional and contemporary bookmaking approaches.&nbsp; Students will also have the opportunity to discuss upcoming topics and materials during each session, ensuring that everyone is well prepared for the next month&rsquo;s project. Creative Writing Techniques: Start-ups! Have you ever wanted to write but didn&rsquo;t know where to start? Do you find that you need help revving the engine on your next project? Join us for an introduction to creative techniques designed to guide you to a good place for beginnings! This one-time workshop will get your creative juices flowing. You can approach it as a poet, a fiction writer, or a non-fiction writer (or any combination of the three!). The best part is that there is NO experience needed, although it is welcome! Discover the art and craft of making books by hand in this monthly workshop series. Thursdays from 6:00pm-8:00pm. Each session introduces new techniques and materials, building skills to expand your creative and technical repertoire. Along the way, students will learn to handle papers, adhesives, threads, and cover materials with confidence, while gaining insight into both traditional and contemporary bookmaking approaches.&nbsp; Students will also have the opportunity to discuss upcoming topics and materials during each session, ensuring that everyone is well prepared for the next month&rsquo;s project. Whether you&rsquo;re a beginner drawn to handmade books or an experienced artist looking to refine your binding skills, this series offers a rewarding exploration of craftsmanship, creativity, and the timeless beauty of the book form. Each workshop is it&rsquo;s own lesson, meaning you do not need to take prior workshops if a topic is of interest to you. May 21 - Sewing 3: Coptic stitch books with sewn bindings. The oldest sewn binding method is the Coptic stitch, dating to the late Roman Empire, which produces a book with an open spine and decorative rows of stitching. Students will first make covers (as in the first and third classes), then arrange signatures into a text block before learning to sew them as medieval bookmakers did. Friday, May 15, 2026 6pm Cyanotype is a cameraless photographic process using UV light to create unique, monochrome blue prints by exposing objects placed on light-sensitive paper or fabric to sunlight. In this workshop, we&rsquo;ll learn some of the history of Cyanotypes, how to best prepare an image and how to print on both fabric and paper substrates. For the beginner: students will learn the basic techniques such as wet on wet, wet on dry application, blending and some color theory. Continuing watercolor students will hone in on their skills and learn new techniques. Adult Intermediate Painting - Acrylics starts 9/26/26

Beginning &amp; Continuing Adult WatercolorsMondays from 6:00pm-8:00pmFall Session I: 10/5, 10/12, 10/19, 10/26, 11/2, 11/9 This 2-hour 6-week class is for the beginning watercolor student as well as for students who have basic watercolor skills and want to perfect their technique. For the beginner: students will learn the basic techniques such as wet on wet, wet on dry application, blending and some color theory. Continuing watercolor students will hone in on their skills and learn new techniques. Adult Watercolors - starts 10/5/26

Tuesdays from 6:30-7:30pm2026 Fall Session 2: (4 weeks) &nbsp;10/6, 10/13, 10/20, 10/27 Designed for fans of anime, manga, comics and cartoons. The anime art form, having originated in Japan in the early 1900s, is a uniquely stylized form of two- and three-dimensional illustration and animation. Teacher will lead lessons with step-by-step instruction via one-on-one and group interactions. Students will learn essential drawing techniques as well as outlining and coloring to create a completed work of art. Develop the skills you need to make the anime and manga art you love! Bring pencils or markers and sketchbooks. Open to all skill levels. Students will enjoy interacting with other anime fans in the class. Adult Beginning Painting - Acrylics starts 10/7

Discover the art and craft of making books by hand in this monthly workshop series. Thursdays from 6:00pm-8:00pm. Each session introduces new techniques and materials, building skills to expand your creative and technical repertoire. Along the way, students will learn to handle papers, adhesives, threads, and cover materials with confidence, while gaining insight into both traditional and contemporary bookmaking approaches.&nbsp; Students will also have the opportunity to discuss upcoming topics and materials during each session, ensuring that everyone is well prepared for the next month&rsquo;s project. Whether you&rsquo;re a beginner drawn to handmade books or an experienced artist looking to refine your binding skills, this series offers a rewarding exploration of craftsmanship, creativity, and the timeless beauty of the book form. Each workshop is it&rsquo;s own lesson, meaning you do not need to take prior workshops if a topic is of interest to you. Oct 15 - Sewing 3: Coptic stitch books with sewn bindings. The oldest sewn binding method is the Coptic stitch, dating to the late Roman Empire, which produces a book with an open spine and decorative rows of stitching. Students will first make covers (as in the first and third classes), then arrange signatures into a text block before learning to sew them as medieval bookmakers did. Everyone will leave with a Coptic-bound volume. Instructor: Greg LoselleAges: 16 and up (slightly younger artists may be accompanied by an adult)Cost: $25 per class. Pre-registration required.
