Many retired K-9s require lifelong medications or treatment for injuries sustained during their careers. K9 Ghost is a retired Patrol K9 who served the Connecticut Department of Correction (DOC) alongside his handler, Correctional Officer Charles Ellison. K9 Ghost and Officer Ellison graduated from the 187th Connecticut State Police K9 Patrol Class on July 6, 2017.K9 Ghost officially retired from active duty with the CT DOC in 2025.Upon retirement, Ghost was welcomed into the medical support program run by Drobec's Second Chance, a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting retired K9 heroes with veterinary care and medical expenses after their agency badges are turned in. Shortly after undergoing surgery, Ghost suffered another unrelated medical emergency and unfortunately succumbed to his illness. We are looking to cover his final medical expenses, to bring him home, and to continue our mission for other retired canines, so that no handler ever has to face this alone.
