Join us and celebrate together.&nbsp; BiographyOusmane Sall, a master dancer/choreographer and drummer from Senegal, excels in all Senegalese styles and specializes in Kutiro rhythms. Born into a traditional drumming and dance family, he trained at the National Dance Academy and performed with the National Ballet Senemew and Silimbo D&rsquo;Adeane in Senegal. In New York, he has graced venues like Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, performing with groups including YAKAR Roots and Rhythms African Drum and Dance Ensemble. With a warm presence, he inspires students to embrace rhythm and dance freely, showcasing charm, strength, and vibrant energy in his sensual and mystical style.&nbsp;

Duye presents Moving Waters, a curated showcase of dance as a living, breathing current of connection. Exploring heritage, identity, or the liberating act of simply being, featuring a diverse cohort of 7 boundary-pushing dancers and makers. Movement is a vehicle for change, and water is fluid, powerful, and unstoppable as it carries us away or changes us gradually.&nbsp; JANAE MOSES &bull; VASIALYS RODRIGUEZ &bull; SHANIA JONESJanae Moses&nbsp;Originally from Long Island, NY, Janae Moses is a multifaceted artist. Janae received her Bachelor of Arts in Dance complemented by a certificate in Arts Management and Leadership from Hunter College. Working alongside notable choreographers such as Jade Charon Robertson, Charles Smith, Chrybaby Cozie. MaiLe, and many more. She has also choreographed for rising artists, hip hop dance studios and college. Janae has traveled to places such as Pennsylvania, Georgia and Arizona to continue her extensive training as a professional dancer and choreographer.Vasialys RodriguezVasialys Rodriguez&rsquo;s work reflects their &nbsp;cultural experience as a Latinx woman from NYC. Their &nbsp;movement language echoes my body&#39;s knowledge in Afro Cuban, House, Hip Hop, Afro-Contemporary, and freestyle forms. The composition will display ensemble collaboration, partnerwork, call and response, improvisation, body percussion, interaction with plants and reflections, spoken word, and breathwork. Together, we don&rsquo;t just tell a story; we bring the audience into a collective experience of transformation and revelation.Shania JonesShania Angel Jones is a multidisciplinary artist, dancer, and choreographer. She is a Caribbean American born from Guyanese and Jamaican parents and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Jones moves from the intersection of the physical and the spiritual, using her body as both an archive and a site of knowledge. Jones&rsquo;s heritage is the root of the foundation that upholds her experience. Caribbean family parties and dance contests, learning social dancehall movements like the &ldquo;dutty whine&rdquo; and developing a relationship with her hips and unlocking blood memory to release expression from the pelvis. Her work as choreographer, artist, and teacher speaks to the nonlinear, improvisational, and interconnected way that diasporic people move through time, memory, and identity. About the CuratorChris Bisram is an Indo-Caribbean multidisciplinary artist with a primary focus in dance and theater. Bisram is an EmergeNYC Fellow at BAX, a Street Style Ambassador for City Center, and an Artichoke Ambassador for Artichoke Dance company. Bisram is a part of Cumbe Community Dance Company: Rise, MV Dance Project and The Remote Theater Projects Thank You For Listening cast. Alongside this Bisram is the demonstrator for the Dunham technique class at the Ailey extension for Marcea T. Daiter. &nbsp;Bisram is currently enrolled at CUNY Hunter&#39;s BA program in Dance Education. Currently, they are a Dance Specialist for Beacon, Variety Boys and Girls Club and Producing Moving Water: Emerging Artist Dance Showcase for Duye Moves.

I AM A MANA Group Exhibition Honoring the Humanity, Dignity &amp; Vulnerability of Black MenCurated by Darlene Delores The 1968 Memphis sanitation workers&rsquo; strike gave us a historic slogan: &ldquo;I Am a Man.&rdquo; Black men carried these signs to demand dignity, respect, and civil rights. They refused to be overlooked in a fight against inequality and dangerous working conditions. Today, Black men continue to carry a similar weight imposed by society, while existing with dignity and a silent vulnerability. Societal commentary and stereotypical expectations often miss the nuances that persist within the Black community. These 11 fine artists &ndash; male creatives of African descent &ndash; use differing practices and materials to share their perspectives and feelings. They exist as artistic, dignified, self‑aware Black men. A celebration of the Brooklyn independent music scene featuring beatmakers, vocalists, rappers, and instrumentalists gathered on Governors Island for a picnic, good music, and real community. Curated by Brooklyn-based producer and rapper Cryptic One (Ian), co-founder of UBIQUITY, a quarterly Brooklyn underground hip-hop event series alongside Rijo and Paze Infinite, Frequency Fest is a space where the underground comes outside.&nbsp; Expect an eclectic mix of artists doing it on their own terms, making music that means something. Bring a blanket. Bring snacks. Soak it in.

Bombazo! A Community Drum Jam&nbsp;Kick off Memorial Day Weekend with rhythm, fire, and community.&nbsp;Bombazo! is a multicultural drum jam celebrating the African Diaspora. Led by Legacy Women &ndash; an all-women Afro-Caribbean drum, song, and dance troupe &ndash; this afternoon will ignite the island with bomba and palos music, infused with an urban twist.&nbsp;Legacy Women brings the feminine power that unleashes community exhilaration. Their fiery vocals and pulsing drums pay tribute to the daily struggles and escapades of Caribbean urban women.&nbsp;All drummers + everyone welcome &ndash; from across the five boroughs, the tri-state, and the broader Diaspora drum &amp; dance community. Come ready to play, explore, learn and break a little freer. Bring your drums, percussion instruments, food, drinks, and snacks. The Inspiration:&quot;To be Afro-Mexican is to dance with ghosts&mdash;our ancestors&rsquo; drums in our feet, their freedom dreams in our songs.&quot;&mdash;Eduardo A&ntilde;orve, Afro-Mexican poet This D&iacute;a de los Muertos, celebrate the weaving together Indigenous Mexican roots and African resilience in a sacred gathering for all ancestors&mdash;especially the warriors lost to wars, oppression, and genocide. We honor traditions birthed in the fires of resistance: from the Danza de los Diablos dances of Afro-Mexican freed communities to the mountain palenques of Gaspar Yanga, who founded the Americas&rsquo; first free Black settlement in 1609.

To Get Her My Own is a multidisciplinary takeover featuring a curated installation of original visual artwork and a short live performance presented in a play format, combining original music and a projected short film. About the ArtistSuede Jenkins is a Brooklyn-based audio/visual artist whose work weaves original music, moving images, and visual art into intimate narrative worlds. Drawing from lived and observed experience, his practice explores what it means to be a Black man in love with her&mdash;a presence that becomes his heart, his art, and his soul&mdash;within an evolving and uncertain world. Through story-driven performance and imagery, Jenkins creates space for tenderness, reflection, and emotional truth in public life. What&#39;s To Get Her My Own&nbsp;About?The title is a play on words.&nbsp;&ldquo;To get her&rdquo; are the three words that form together.&nbsp;&ldquo;My own&rdquo; reflects how I am learning to put myself back together&mdash;on my own terms&mdash;inside a world of my creation.The work tells a personal and emotional story about becoming whole, claiming voice, and shaping a future that feels authored rather than inherited. A celebration of the Brooklyn independent music scene featuring beatmakers, vocalists, rappers, and instrumentalists gathered on Governors Island for a picnic, good music, and real community. Curated by Brooklyn-based producer and rapper Cryptic One (Ian), co-founder of UBIQUITY, a quarterly Brooklyn underground hip-hop event series alongside Rijo and Paze Infinite, Frequency Fest is a space where the underground comes outside.&nbsp; Expect an eclectic mix of artists doing it on their own terms, making music that means something. Featuring dancing skyscrapers, giant rats, fossil-fuel-fighting flowers, a live brass band, and Lady Liberty herself! &nbsp;Created in collaboration with Sane Energy Project, El Puente, Great Small Works, Friends of Bushwick Inlet Park, W.O.W. Project &nbsp;and Archive Based Creative Arts.
