Intro to Amaro Making

***This workshop has been cancelled and is no longer scheduled; all purchases and donations associated with this workshop have been refunded. Thank you!*** Bats are among the most effective natural pest controllers on the planet — a single bat can eat thousands of mosquitoes and insects in a single night — but populations across the Mid-Atlantic have declined sharply due to habitat loss and white-nose syndrome. A well-placed bat box can provide critical roosting habitat right in your backyard while keeping your garden naturally pest-free. In this hands-on workshop, you'll build and take home a bat box designed for species native to Zone 7a, learning where and how to mount it for the best chance of attracting a colony, what to expect through the seasons, and how your efforts connect to broader pollinator and pest-management conservation. All materials provided. No woodworking experience needed. Easy Lacto-Fermented Pickles

Pollinators like native bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds are essential to healthy ecosystems — and to our food supply — but habitat loss and the spread of non-native plants have made it harder for them to find the food and shelter they need. The good news is that even a small patch of native plantings can make a real difference. In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn how to plan and start a pollinator garden tailored to Zone 7a, including which native plants to prioritize for season-long bloom, how to prepare your soil, and how to design for both beauty and function. We'll cover what to avoid (invasive ornamentals that crowd out native species) and how your garden connects to broader pollinator conservation across the Mid-Atlantic. Everyone will head home with a native seedling ready to plant. All materials provided. Thanks to a grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, we're able to offer this workshop at a reduced rate of $5, waivable upon request. This event takes place at Edgewood Community Farm — just head up the red stairs to the left of the yellow house at 2304 2nd St. NE. We also recommend bringing a folding/collapsible chair (although we will have limited folding chairs available for vendor use at the farm as well).

Edgewood Community Farm will market this event using our normal channels (including via newsletters, social media, and various local press we have formed relationships with). However, it is also the expectation that every vendor participating in the market will also advertise this event via their channels as well.

All vendors must comply with all applicable local and state codes, ordinances, laws and regulations pertaining to health, fire prevention, public safety, food service, insurance, and all other matters.

Vendors are responsible for ensuring the safety and security of their goods and any payments received for those goods. Edgewood Community Farm accepts no liability for damage, injury, or loss of any kind incurred by the vendor or for liabilities incurred by the exhibitor, including loss by fire or theft.

Come by the farm for our Fourth Annual Holiday Market, where we’re bringing all the cozy festival vibes to celebrate the season. We’ll have handcrafted gifts from local makers, live entertainment, and kid-friendly activities like ornament painting, holiday coloring, and story time. Warm up by the fire pits, sip cocoa or cider, browse the vendors, and enjoy a little holiday cheer with your neighbors. This event takes place at Edgewood Community Farm — just head up the red stairs to the left of the yellow house at 2304 2nd St. NE. If this is an indoor event or if we need a rain backup, the event will be held inside the yellow house. For paid events, registration fees for no-shows will be treated as donations to the farm. For paid workshops, no one will be turned away for inability to pay. If you’d like to attend but need a discounted rate, please email nora@ecfarm.org. If you’d like to hear about future events and activities, you can sign up for our newsletter here.
