Edmonton Raga-Mala Music Society

Edmonton Raga-Mala Music Society promotes Indian classical music through performances, education, and community engagement, fostering cultural appreciation and artistic expression in the Edmonton area.

Edmonton Raga Mala Music Society presents an evening of Hindustani classical music with three of India's leading musicians, together on one stage. Vidushi Mita Nag (Sitar) is known for her expressive, deeply melodic sitar playing. She carries forward a respected family tradition of the instrument. Pandit Partho Sarathi (Sarod) is one of today's leading sarod players. His playing is known for its depth and tonal richness, and for staying true to the classical tradition. Pandit Subhen Chatterjee (Tabla) is a celebrated tabla player. He is known for his sensitive accompaniment and his dazzling rhythmic work. Legacy brings sitar and sarod together with tabla. It celebrates the lineages these artists have inherited and the living tradition they carry forward. Whether you've followed Hindustani music for years or this is your first concert, it will be an evening to remember.

LEGACY - Confluence of Strings & Rhythm

For one evening, four masters of Indian classical music share a single stage.Pt. Indrajit Banerjee's sitar and Dr. Ratish Tagde's violin trace the raga in strings — one plucked and resonant, the other bowed and voice-like. Pt. Lokesh Anand answers on shehnai, the reed that has opened auspicious occasions across India for centuries. Holding it all together is Pt. Hindole Majumdar on tabla, whose rhythmic conversation turns four soloists into one ensemble. Swar Sangam — literally, the confluence of notes — is built around that meeting: instruments that bend and breathe a melody in completely different ways, exploring the same raga together. Expect meditative alaap, intricate jugalbandi exchanges, and a rhythmic finale you'll feel in your chest. By registering, you support Edmonton Raga-Mala Music Society’s mission to share and preserve Indian classical music through concerts, education, and community programs. We look forward to welcoming you to this special event. 🌙
