Fernie Pride Society

Fernie Pride Society works to foster safe and inclusive communities for 2SLGBTQ+ individuals in the Elk Valley and South Country region of southeast BC. 

We reside on land within Qukin ʔamakʔis, unceded traditional territory of Yaq̓it ʔa·knuqⱡi’it.

Settle in for a Sunday Sip with Fernie Pride and our favourite family, the Nuff&#39;s! Fernie&rsquo;s Favourite Queens are back to send Pride off right! Join the Nuff&#39;s for a drag lunch at Nevado&rsquo;s and leave filled up on food, love, and laughter! Nevado&rsquo;s full menu, along with a special lunch feature, will be available. Ticket price includes one of their iconic margaritas (alcoholic or nonalcoholic) and the Nuff performance. Lunch is not included in the entry price.&nbsp; Tickets are only $30/person and there is a limited number available so get yours soon! This is another sell-out event in the Elk Valley Pride Festival lineup. This is a 19+ event as risque language and songs may happen! Thank you for your understanding! EVPF - Sunday Sip Drag Lunch

Youth, parents, professionals! Join us on Sunday morning for a very special interactive workshop with Aiyana Twigg. While we encourage youth and caregivers to attend, all people are now welcome regardless of whether you have a youth in your life! The workshop will explore the relationship between language, identity, culture, land, and belonging, using Ktunaxa language and Aiyana&rsquo;s own experiences as a language learner and researcher as an entry point. Rather than a traditional presentation, participants will work together through a combination of storytelling, interactive language activities, small-group discussion, videos, and a collaborative creative project. Aiyana Kⱡawat̓inak Paⱡki&middot; Sa&rsquo;tahtaki Twigg is a Ktunaxa and Blackfoot scholar, PhD student, keynote speaker, language researcher, and Indigenous youth advocate from yaq̓it ʔa&middot;knuqⱡiʔit within ʔamakʔis Ktunaxa (Ktunaxa territory). She is a Ktunaxa citizen on her mother&rsquo;s side and a registered member of the Kainai (Blood Tribe) on her father&rsquo;s side. Her work focuses on Indigenous language revitalization, the Ktunaxa language, Indigenous education, language documentation, writing systems, literacy, land-based pedagogy, pronunciation, digital media, and youth engagement. A catered lunch will be provided.

EVPF - Lunch & Learn Indigenous Language Reclamation with Aiyana Twigg

Join us for a nostalgic high energy night inspired by the iconic dancefloor throwdowns of the 90&rsquo;s and 00&rsquo;s! Hosts and producers, The Backstreet Butches, will be taking over The Central stage for an unforgettable evening of drag performances, dance party anthems, and pride celebration. Whether you were raised on Much Music countdowns, TRL, or your own illegally burned CD&rsquo;s, this night is for you! Come dressed to impress: Popstar Princess, Y2K Icon, or Denim on Denim? You decide. Please bring government issued photo idea for drink purchases and entry. This event is age 19+.

EVPF - Backstreet Butches Drag Show

Pride in the Park is a relaxed, family-friendly gathering where 2SLGBTQ+ folks and allies can show up as they are, connect, and celebrate together. Join the Elk Valley Pride Festival for this FREE, all-ages celebration of queer arts and artists! Featuring drag performances, music by Madisun, Cursed Words, and The Frontiers, info tables, vendors, and an all-ages Beer Garden, this day is sure to have something for everyone! (Please bring government issued photo ID if you would like to purchase adult beverages) There&rsquo;s interactive booths, including button making and kid&rsquo;s crafts, plus food trucks and artisan vendors. Stay tuned for performance times but make sure to join us from noon to 6pm on the greenspace at Fernie City Hall for Pride in the Park! Everyone is welcome&mdash;whether you&rsquo;re curious, questioning, or proudly out, there&rsquo;s a place for you here.

EVPF - Pride in the Park

Skate, connect, and be completely yourself! EVPF &ndash; Intro to Skate, but Make it Gay is a beginner‑friendly session for 2SLGBTQ+ folks and allies who want to try skating in a safer, more inclusive space. Our volunteers will walk you through the basics, cheer you on, and keep things low‑pressure and fun. All identities, all bodies, all skill levels welcome&mdash;just bring your curiosity and we&rsquo;ll take it from there. We&rsquo;re switching up the Skate Jam this year and bringing it to the skate park, and giving you everything you need to get started or get stronger at it. We&rsquo;ll have versed skaters there teaching you all the parts of your deck, walk you through all the features of the skate park, talk about etiquette, and give you some coaching too.&nbsp; There will be prizes from Commit and Edge of the World to help you get set up and keep you coming to the park. This event is specifically for 2SLGBTQIA+ folks and allies who are at the start of their skate journey, come hang and get comfortable with your local park.

EVPF - Intro to Skate, but Make it Gay

Lace up and join Fernie Pride Society and Hike Fernie for a relaxed Pride Stride on the trail 🌈🥾 This walk is open to 2SLGBTQ+ folks and allies of all ages and fitness levels. Get those legs warmed up for an afternoon of &nbsp;Pride in the Park with a guided hike! Please wear appropriate footwear, bring water and a snack, and clothes that are easy to walk in. Thanks to the person who makes walking the most fun, Duncan, of Hike Ferniefor leading us! Check back in later to find out what hike we&rsquo;re doing, and to get info on your meet up spot!

Join us and We 3 Meet at the Fernie Distillery for a cozy night of good music, good drinks, and good friends.&nbsp; Hailing from Fernie, Katie Lane, Liza Gareau Tosh, Allison Pace are longtime friends are turning their mutual affections for music into frolicking good fun. Covering all kinds of musical ground, they keep the guitars, banjos and ukes moving. Really, they just want to see how much they can get away with.&nbsp; Expect good tunes, good company, and a welcoming vibe for everyone under the rainbow 🌈.&nbsp;

EVPF - All Bodies Public Swim is a relaxed, judgment‑free swim for 2SLGBTQ+ community members and allies. Come as you are, in whatever swimwear feels right for you. 🏊&zwj;♀️🌈 Join the City of Fernie, in partnership with Fernie Pride, in celebrating inclusivity and diversity with this All-Bodies Swim!This swim prioritizes those who may find joining in on regular programming challenging. We encourage folks who are queer, transgender, gender fluid, people of all sizes, people with scars, tattoos, and body hair, and any other variation that does not fit into social expectations. All people, identities, and bodies are welcome to attend this swim as long as they are committed to upholding this safe space. Please be respectful of all bodies, boundaries, identities, names, pronouns, and spaces. During this body-positive event, swimmers are welcome to wear swim attire they feel confident in and may safely use the changeroom they are most comfortable in. There will also be a Universal Changeroom available. Registration is not required and PLEASE NOTE that regular Aquatic Centre drop-in rates apply. Hosted by the City of Fernie, this event centres safety, inclusion, and respect. Lifeguards and staff are briefed on our values, and simple guidelines help keep the pool a welcoming space for everyone.

EVPF - All Bodies Public Swim

Get ready for the drag king workshop of your dreams! Join the Backstreet Butches for an afternoon of exploration and play. In this workshop, you&rsquo;ll be led through exercises to uncover your inner drag persona. We&rsquo;ll explore what sides of yourself and the artform you&rsquo;re inspired to dig deeper into, while learning and practicing drag makeup tips and tricks. Whether you&rsquo;re brand new to drag or already experimenting, we want you to come be curious with us and experience the joy of drag. Remember to wear a shirt with a low neck or one you don&rsquo;t mind getting a bit of makeup on. Join us for EVPF - Drag Story &amp; Craft Time 🌈📚 Enjoy storytime with our very special guest readers, followed by simple crafts that celebrate self-expression, colour, and creativity. This is a FREE event but securing a ticket in advance is necessary as this event sells out! Please note that everyone needs their own ticket &ndash; child and caregiver. Ms. Jodie and Ms. Laura are super excited to meet and sing with our fabulous Queens! And we may even have a special guest or two joining in! EVPF - Drag Story & Craft Time

Kick off Elk Valley Pride with a morning flag raising, a colourful bike parade, and a relaxed community picnic hosted by The Pub. 🌈🚲 The evening begins with a meaningful Flag Raising ceremony, followed by a vibrant Bike Parade through the community. We&rsquo;ll wrap up with the Rainbow Connections Community Pub Picnic, where everyone can come together to celebrate, connect, and enjoy good food and company.&nbsp; Get your free bike decorating kit the day before (Wednesday) at the Arts Station.&nbsp; This free, family-friendly event welcomes all community members to show their support and pride. Bring your decorated bikes, your appetite, and your rainbow spirit as we officially launch our festival celebration! EVPF - Opening Events – Flag Raising, Bike Parade and Pub Picnic

Join us for a thoughtful Lunch &amp; Learn with the Edmonton 2Spirit Society, exploring what it means to be an ally and how gender shows up in our lives and communities.&nbsp; Join us for a Lunch &amp; Learn Inclusive Workshop led by Lena Green and Jackson Koski of the Edmonton 2Spirit Society.The Edmonton 2Spirit Society works to re-establish and enhance our traditional roles and responsibilities as Two-Spirit people in Indigenous communities while creating supportive environments within all societies for contemporary Two-Spirit peoples. This workshop will help you gain a deeper understanding of 2Spirit Identities, it&rsquo;s relation to the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, and how you can create gender affirming spaces and be stronger Allies to the 2Spirit and IndigiQueer communities. This workshop includes a catered lunch and is $15 per person. or $10 for Fernie Pride Society current members. This session supports Fernie Pride Society&rsquo;s mission to build a safer, more inclusive Fernie through open conversation, learning, and respect. EVPF - Lunch & Learn | A is for Ally, G is for Gender with the Edmonton 2Spirit Society

Ride with us for the EVPF All Gender Pride Ride 🌈🚲 &mdash; a welcoming group ride for queer folks and allies of every gender. We&rsquo;ll move at a casual pace so more people can roll together, connect, and feel safe being fully themselves. Hosted by The Fernie Ladies Ride Group, we welcome riders of all genders and identities to join the ride! This will be a mountain bike ride and riders of all abilities and experience levels are welcome to join! &nbsp;Bring your Pride costumes, decorate your bike, and meet us at 6:00 PM at the Aquatic Centre Gazebo. We will be splitting up into a number of smaller ride groups according to levels and abilities, and will meet after the ride at the Fernie Distillery for a post-ride social and drinks!&nbsp; Come celebrate inclusion, community, and the joy of riding together!&nbsp; An FTA pass is required to participate&mdash;please send a screenshot of your receipt to fernieladiesride@gmail.com before the ride.

EVPF - All Gender Pride Ride

An inclusive evening for youth of skateboarding and roller skating. Creativity, community, and good vibes!&nbsp;Join Elk Valley Youth Pride, Elk Valley Pride Festival, and Grip Tape Girls for a few hours where you can skate, create, and connect. No pressure, no experience needed. Grip Tape Girls will be there to give you pointers, walk you through the skate park, and just the right amount of coaching.&nbsp; Bring your board and your friends. Roll up and get creative at the EVPF Bike Decoration Station 🚲🌈 Dress up your wheels with ribbons, flags, and colour! Pick up a FREE decorating kit so you can fit out your bike in style for Thursday&rsquo;s Bike Parade. These free grab and go kits are available from the Arts Station from 4:30-6:00pm. Kits are limited and first come, first served! Everyone is invited&mdash;no art skills needed, just curiosity and kindness. Your decorated bike helps turn our streets into a moving Pride parade, promoting equality, visibility, and joy with every ride. SHADES: Through Her Lens celebrates stories of queer women, femmes, and non-binary folks whose experiences are too often pushed to the edges. This is an evening of film and conversation with Black, racialized, and queer women at the centre. In attendance will be Salima Stanley-Bhanji, Co-Founder of Humainologie and Filmmaker, and three featured SHADES voices; Tea Fannie, Livvy Walker, and Priscilla Cherry. SHADES is a film series and platform that celebrates Black, racialized, and queer women and centres their identities, passions, hopes, and contributions to the community. Join us for the Fernie Pride Annual General Meeting! Hear what we&rsquo;ve been working on, share your ideas, and help shape safer, more inclusive spaces for 2SLGBTQ+ folks and allies in our community. At the AGM, we&rsquo;ll review the past year, look ahead to upcoming events and advocacy, and confirm our board. Your voice matters;&nbsp;whether you&rsquo;re new to Fernie Pride or have been with us from the start. Mark your calendar for our AGM taking place this year on Tuesday, March 10 at 6pm at the Park Place Lodge. The venue is fully accessible. AGM documents will be available in advance on our website or through a link in our bio closer to the date. Regular AGM business to be conducted including presentation of financial reports, the annual report, and election of Board. We will also be actively seeking new Board Directors. Sunday Sip Drag Brunch

Queer history is a victim of rural isolation. Over the last century there are definite pockets of Queer communities surviving and thriving in the Columbia Basin but often these groups existed in quiet silos due to rural politics, religion, violence, and geography. Working with Kevin Allen, Historian in Residence at the Calgary Central Library, author of the best-selling book: Our Past Matters: Stories of Gay Calgary, and founder of the Calgary Gay History Project, we will preserve the regional Queer History which will result in a book, website, and display materials. Queer History is entwined with advocacy for the rights and visibility of contemporary 2SLGBTQ+ communities. We need to save this rapidly disappearing history in rural areas where it has never been documented, adding to the erasure of 2SLGBTQ+ people. We look forward to launching this exciting new Columbia Basin wide project with you at Bramasole on September 19!

Kootenay Queer History Project Launch

Rainbow Reads, in partnership with the Fernie Heritage Library is one of our most beloved events and we are so excited to be bringing it once again to the Elk Valley Pride Festival! Join in and enjoy a literary discussion and reading led by Angie Abdou, esteemed author of seven books of fiction and non-fiction, with Canadian icon, Joshua Whitehead. This evening event is sure to encourage conversations and delight.&nbsp; Joshua Whitehead is an Oji-Cree, Two-Spirit member of Peguis First Nation (Treaty 1). He is the author of full-metal indigiqueer, Jonny Appleseed, Making Love with the Land, and Indigiqueerness: a Conversation About Storytelling as well as the editor of&nbsp;Love after the End: an Anthology of Two-Spirit and Indigiqueer Speculative Fiction. Whitehead is an Assistant Professor at the University of Calgary (Treaty 7) where he is housed in the departments of English and International Indigenous Studies and is currently a Research Excellence Chair. Drag Story and Craft Time

Join us for a Lunch &amp; Learn Inclusive Culture Workshop led by Dr. Victoria Bucholtz of the Queer Education Foundation. This workshop is designed to foster the basic principles of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in professional settings through an overview of Unconscious Bias Training, Micro-Aggressions, and Bystander Training. Special focus will be given to queer identities and topics.&nbsp; Victoria Bucholtz (she/her) holds a doctorate in History from the University of Calgary, with a cognate field in gender theory. Victoria is a 2SLGBTQ+ facilitator and currently teaches at Mount Royal University. She is a transgender rights activist, entertainment producer, and drag queen. An avid mountaineer, skier, and dog mom, she lives in Calgary in the Treaty 7 Region. This workshop includes a catered lunch and is $15/person or $10 for Fernie Chamber of Commerce Members.&nbsp;
