This inspiring evening honors the transformative work of educators and social workers dedicated to justice in housing and education. The event features a screening of a CRUX Films documentary following the journey of founder Dr. Kenny Robinson and his organization's mission to secure housing for justice-impacted families.

Freedom Reimagined A Juneteenth Celebration

Right now we have a goal that&rsquo;s urgent and deeply personal. We are raising funds to move two families into safe housing before Christmas. That means deposits, first month rent, utilities, and the basic essentials that turn an empty space into a home. We protect privacy, but I can tell you this: these are families who have been fighting to stay afloat, and stable housing changes everything. Beatrice Place Homes&nbsp;Beatrice Place Homes is a groundbreaking, $9.1 million housing development in Charlotte&#39;s University Area. Spearheaded by Freedom Fighting Missionaries (FFM), a local non-profit founded by Kenny Robinson, it stands out as Charlotte&rsquo;s first housing project specifically tailored for justice-impacted families experiencing homelessness due to background barriers. &nbsp;The project delivers a strategic, comprehensive approach to breaking cycles of housing instability and opening a realistic path to long-term homeownership.The Pathway to Home OwnershipBeatrice Place Homes is designed as a 24-unit apartment complex (featuring two- and three-bedroom layouts) that acts as a launching pad for families earning between 30% and 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI). Instead of just offering temporary shelter, the development uses an integrated model to transition families from rental stability to permanent property ownership. &nbsp;<ul fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;"><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Financial Literacy &amp; Credit Repair: FFM provides dedicated, on-site financial training. Because criminal justice involvement often leaves individuals with damaged or non-existent credit histories, credit rebuilding is a foundational part of the curriculum. &nbsp;</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Homeownership Counseling: Before residents look for a house, they undergo structured homebuyer preparation. This demystifies the mortgage application process, budgeting, and the long-term responsibilities of owning property.</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Down Payment Assistance Prep: Through its counseling programs and regional partnerships, the development actively positions families to qualify for down payment assistance programs&mdash;such as the City of Charlotte&rsquo;s House Charlotte initiative&mdash;setting them up with financial backing when they are ready to purchase their own homes.</li></ul>A Community-Wide CoalitionBuilding a project of this scale for justice-impacted individuals requires an incredible amount of political and social capital. The local government, private sector, and community have formed an intentional coalition to make it happen.Local Government FundingBoth city and county governments recognized that traditional affordable housing options often filter out individuals with criminal records.
