The National Archives at Kew holds documents from the last 1000 years. It’s an amazing place with some amazing things to see. Dr Euan Roger (who used to be a YAC leader at Chertsey Museum) will be giving us a tour behind the scenes and we’ll also get to see the latest exhibition. You can travel with us on the train from Chertsey or just meet us in Kew, and then be free to explore the other attractions in Kew for the rest of the day. Bookings for this trip will close on Monday 16th March What to bring:

Packed lunch including multiple snacks

Water bottle

Optional: Camera and money for the shop

Do not bring a huge bag, children will be carrying their own things and we want them to enjoy the trip rather than be tired! Content of the day:We have about 2 ¼ hours at the National Archives not including a stop for lunch. When visiting the group will split in half. One half will do a behind the scenes tour with Dr Euan Roger, Principal Records Specialist (Medieval) at the NA and ex-YAC leader at Chertsey museum. The other half will visit the exhibition ‘With Love’, featuring love letters from history and also the shop and toilets. This will take about an hour each and then the groups will swap over. Parents dropping off at National Archives If you prefer to travel on your own and meet us at the National Archives, then the meeting point will be the Main entrance at 10:30 (outside or just inside depending on the weather). See the map here ground_floor - download map.ai . You can then expect to pick up your children again at 12:45 at the same place. While you wait, Kew has some lovely cafés nearby and you could combine your visit with a trip to Kew gardens for the afternoon or similar. Timetable8:30 Meet at Chertsey Museum8:40 Safety talk8:50 Leave Chertsey Museum9:10 Train from Chertsey station (eat snack on train)9:57 Arrive Kew Bridge station walking 20 minutes to National Archives 10:30 Meet independently travelling families at National Archives main entranceTour, visit exhibition, shop, toilets.12:45 Lunch/ Independently travelling families can head off (collect from Main entrance)1:20 Walk back to Kew bridge station walking 20 minutes 1:50 Train from Kew Bridge station2:30 Arrive Chertsey station2:45 Arrive Chertsey Museum Spaces available

Up to 26 children (drop off at Chertsey Museum or National Archives)

4 YAC leaders (supervising)

Additional spaces for up to 4 parents.
