You are warmly invited to our hands-on natural dye and sun print workshop. Together we will spend the day learning how to transform natural dyes and objects into stunning works of art. You will learn the essentials of fiber preparation (scouring and mordanting), explore textile design techniques like tie-dye and traditional Japanese shibori and work directly with onion, walnut, and indigo dye pots. You will go home with six total dyed pieces and a few cyanotype sun prints! We will provide the dyeing textiles for the workshop, but each participant can bring (freshly washed, please) 1-2 tee-shirt sized or smaller pieces to use in the indigo pot. Bonus Sun Printing: While our pots simmer for about an hour, we will get to play with cyanotypes and natural materials so you can capture the magic of the sun on paper! Feel free to bring any of your own dried plant material for experimentation. You’ll leave the workshop with your beautiful handmade textiles, unique sun prints, and a guide detailing everything we learned so you can keep discovering at home. Come with an open mind, clothes you don't mind getting messy, and a love for creating. Space is limited, so save your spot today!

Venus’s retrograde is the rarest of all the planets, happening roughly every 19 months for about 40 days. In that time, Venus goes from being an evening star in the night sky, to disappearing completely from the sky for a time, to reemerging again as a morning star. Ancient peoples were fascinated by this journey of Venus, and it is one of the oldest tracked cycles using astrology. Myths and stories were created the world over to explain the disappearance and reemergence of Venus, and typically these myths involved an underworld journey that resulted in transformation. How can we as modern humans take these mythic themes and apply them to our own lives during a Venus retrograde? How can we engage with the Venus retrograde energies to experience a transformation of our own Venus themes in our lives? We all have Venus in our personal horoscope somewhere! Some Venus themes include:

What we value (aka what we spend money on)

Our capacity to recognize our self worth

Our likes and dislikes, our attractions and aversions

Our approach to relationship

Romance, expressing love and feeling connection

Aesthetics, tastes

Our experience of beauty and of creativity

In this class, find out how to work with the Venus retrograde cycle in general, but also in particular within the context of your personal horoscope. We’ll look at which of the 12 houses (or areas of life) are represented by the signs of Scorpio and Libra in your personal horoscope, as these are the two signs that Venus will be retrograding through for all of us. We’ll also look to see which house in your horoscope includes the Venus-ruled sign of Taurus. We all have Taurus, Scorpio and Libra in our personal horoscope somewhere! Some areas of life these signs could represent in our personal horoscopes include:

2nd house: Money, possessions, income, tools of the trade, personal values

5th house: Creativity, children, self-expression, pleasure, play, romance, sports, gambling

7th house: One to one relationships, The Other

10th house: Career, reputation, vocation, profession, contribution to society

When we meet, we will discuss this Venus retrograde and how it may show up in your personal horoscope. Additionally, we’ll discuss what opportunities Venus may be affording you during her retrograde journey - specifically, opportunities to develop awareness around certain aspects of your personal Venus nature, ideally leading to shifts in perception and style, and possibly offering a different way of engaging with life. You will receive journal-prompt style class materials, with suggested dates for contemplation of what this Venus retrograde journey could mean for you personally. These materials are meant to assist you in cultivating awareness around your own Venus expression, with the aim of developing a type of refinement of your unique process of relating to others, as well as how you negotiate your own relational needs. With Venus in the sky as our guide, we can all utilize this time of Venus’s retrograde to go on our own metaphorical journey from Love goddess to Warrior Queen and back. This class will be useful and informative for everyone, but especially those who have a prominent Venus or a Venus retrograde in their personal horoscope, or who have planets, angles, or points in the signs of Taurus, Libra or Scorpio. THINGS TO BRING:

Your natal chart (or you birth time, date, and location for chart look-up)

A journal for jotting down ideas, thoughts, inspirations for your journey

An open and curious mind and a desire for personal growth

DESIRED DRESS CODE: Wear what you dig! Understanding Your Natal Moon through Astrology & Tarot

“Your soul is both of you and of the world. The world cannot be full until you become fully yourself. Your soul corresponds to a niche, a distinctive place in nature, like a vibrant space of shimmering potential waiting to be discovered, claimed, … occupied. Your soul is in and of the world, like a whirlpool in a river, a wave in the ocean, or a branch of flame in a fire.”― Bill Plotkin, Soulcraft: Crossing into the Mysteries of Nature and Psyche In The Practice of the Wild, poet and essayist Gary Snyder defines wildness as being free, spontaneous, self-propagating, self-maintaining, flourishing in accord with innate qualities, self-reliant. Author, activist, and educator Parker Palmer defines the hidden wholeness within each of us as our “inner source of truth, named in various wisdom traditions as identity, true self, heart, spirit or soul,” which we discern by listening to our “inner teacher.” As Parker Palmer says, “Like a wild animal, the soul is tough, resilient, resourceful, savvy, and self-sufficient” (A Hidden Wholeness: The Journey Toward an Undivided Life). Our “wild soul,” then, is where our authentic self and our free, wild nature meet. In these sessions, we will get in touch with our wild souls through a Circle of Trust®, by which we co-create trustworthy space to listen to the wisdom of our personal inner teacher in community with others through the Courage & Renewal® approach developed by Parker Palmer. We will be inspired by both the beautiful land at Harvest Preserve and readings drawn from diverse cultures and wisdom traditions, offering opportunities for individual reflection, trustworthy sharing, and deep listening.Wild Soul at Harvest Preserve is open to all, regardless of background or belief. Anyone is welcome to attend one, some, or all sessions.

“Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— / I took the one less traveled by, / And that has made all the difference.” — Robert Frost, “The Road Not Taken” Enjoy this serene outdoor* workshop wherein yoga and poetry merge in Iowa City’s beautiful Harvest Preserve. Adaptable for all levels and abilities, this workshop combines a gentle yoga flow with the sublime nature of poetry, forging a new “road taken” together. Inspired by the reconnection of two college friends (one a yoga instructor, the other a poet) over their shared love of poetry, this class seeks to inspire attendees to slooow down and pay attention to their breaths, bodies, minds… and the beautiful world around them. If you are a curious soul seeking a more poetic approach to life (whether you think you like poetry or not), come explore with us this “road not (yet) taken” together. Perhaps, to paraphrase Frost, it could make “all the difference.” This workshop is limited to 25 attendees and is non-refundable. Please bring a water bottle, sunscreen, bug spray, yoga mat (a limited number are available for use), and an adventurous spirit. *In case of rain (though we pray for its absence), we will proceed indoors and adapt “poetically.” *******Meet your instructors: Noelle resides in Iowa City and has been teaching yoga for over 20 years. She believes yoga is for everybody — and every body. Noelle was inspired to create this event after leading an Addiction Recovery yoga class where upon reading a poem to those struggling with substance abuse (many of whom had served time in relation to it), she looked up and saw all the men had tears in their eyes. That’s when the “power of poetry” truly hit her and she excitedly called her friend: Marc currently resides in West Des Moines upon making his “Hero’s Journey” back home after a long, long dream in West Hollywood, California. Marc is a poet, actor, theater critic, and educator who has helped train medical students (and other health professionals) at some of the top schools in Southern California. He has responded to Noelle’s call for a yoga-poetry collaboration with his own — as Walt Whitman calls it — “barbaric yawp.”
