Hawaiʻi ArtSpace is tickled pink to announce their first fully staged musical: Howard Crabtree&rsquo;s When Pigs Fly &mdash; conceived by Howard Crabtree and Mark Waldrop, with book and lyrics by Waldrop and music by Dick Gallagher. Directed and choreographed by multi‑award‑winner Miles Phillips and featuring dazzling costumes by veteran Broadway designer James Corry, this beloved OBIE, Drama Desk, Lucille Lortel, and Outer Critics Circle Award‑winning musical revue finally makes its long‑awaited flight across the Pacific, landing at Palikū Theatre October 2. When Pigs Fly is a delightful, hilarious, eye-popping, over-the-top Ziegfeld Follies style musical comedy revue filtered through an LGBTQ+ lens. Overflowing with wit, heart, and glittering theatrical flair, the show celebrates the creative spirit at its most playful and persistent. It invites audiences of all kinds to dream big, laugh often, and maybe even believe that pigs really can fly. Inspired by Crabtree&rsquo;s love of legendary designer Bob Mackie &mdash; whose iconic blend of glamour and visual humor helped define The Carol Burnett Show &mdash; the costumes are a show unto themselves. Crabtree&rsquo;s designs, once embraced by Mackie in a New York revival, are reimagined yet again for Hawaiʻi ArtSpace by James Corry, and they are, in every sense of the word, FABULOUS.
