Healing With Horses Ranch

Healing with Horses Ranch is a 501c3 nonprofit providing equine-assisted services in Central Texas. We help individuals build resilience, independence, & strong relationships in a safe, inclusive environment where growth is lasting & life-changing.

Healing with Horses Ranch is hosting a virtual parent workshop designed to provide an introduction to understanding children&#39;s behavior through a nervous system lens, drawing from the work of Robyn Gobbel, including concepts presented in Raising Kids with Big, Baffling Behaviors (her book) and her parent education curriculum. Objectives<ul fr-original-style="" id="isPasted" style="box-sizing: inherit;"><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Explore the concepts of connection, co-regulation, and felt safety.</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Gain practical tools for responding to challenging behaviors from a compassionate and effective perspective.</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Understand how relational experiences support nervous system regulation and resilience.</li></ul>Facilitator: Michael Ann Starr, LCSWMichael is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Registered Play Therapist (RPT), and Equine Specialist in Mental Health &amp; Learning (ESMHL) who works with our equine-assisted psychotherapy clients. Michael has loved horses since childhood and was thrilled to join the herd at Healing with Horses in 2022. She works with children, teens, and adults, and may be a good fit for your family if you or your child is experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, or loss. She also specializes in working with youth showing behavioral difficulties at home or school, those who have experienced a traumatic or difficult event, and youth or families experiencing difficulty adjusting to a life change. This hands-on workshop is designed for the parents of youth &amp; teens who want to strengthen connection, reduce power struggles, and set clear boundaries without yelling or shutdowns.&nbsp; Guided by a licensed therapist &amp; equine specialist, parents will explore nervous system regulation, co-regulation, attachment, and the difference between calm leadership &amp; control. This small-group experience blends psychoeducation with experiential work alongside our herd. It is only for parents to attend.&nbsp; &quot;I think this program should be marketed to all parents of HHR participants as a resource, support and community building program. Every year around the Easter holiday, Healing with Horses Ranch welcomes the community for a free, family-friendly event. A highlight of the day is the Duck Derby, a rubber duck race down Gilleland Creek that doubles as a fundraiser for the Ranch. Guests can also take part in a one-of-a-kind egg hunt along our scenic trails. Reserve your time slot to hunt for candy &amp; toy filled Easter eggs through our trail system (if weather permits), learn more about the Ranch at our outreach table, meet our therapy horses, and participate in our Duck Derby! Join&nbsp;Healing with Horses Ranch staff&nbsp;for an engaging, experiential presentation exploring how emotional regulation&nbsp;&amp; awareness deepen relationships.&nbsp;Participants in this CEU will learn how&nbsp;polyvagal theory&nbsp;&amp; equine behavior intersect. Joel Wyrtzen, LPC, ESMHL, will share his&nbsp;expertise&nbsp;in&nbsp;how both humans&nbsp;&amp; horses shift between five key emotional-neural states: Novelty, Safety, Reward, Threat, and Overwhelm. Participants will:- Learn to recognize subtle emotional &amp; physiological cues.- Explore how the nervous system regulates emotion &amp; connection.- Practice self-awareness &amp; &ldquo;self-cueing&rdquo; strategies to foster calm, focus, and authentic engagement.- Experience exercises that build safety, trust, and communication with equine partners. This training includes live horse interactions, group exercises, and debriefs to encourage integration of emotional regulation techniques into your career &amp; beyond.
