Gunsmith Program
During this ten-week program, the students should acquire the basic knowledge needed to build a Pennsylvania Longrifle. The course will consist of approximately 60 hours of instruction in building a rifle under the direction of our skilled instructors, this will be intertwined with some “Hands-on History” by examining some fine original rifles from The Jacobsburg Collection. We want the student to gain a greater appreciation of the art and beauty of the American long rifle. We recommend an apprentice gun builder start with quality parts and a pre-shaped stock, with the barrel and ramrod channels started. A pre-shaped stock still requires a great deal of work to complete but will greatly reduce the chance of apprentice apprehension. For this class, the following materials are included in the course fee a profiled full length stock, barrel and breach plug, flintlock assembly with required mounting hardware, breach mount screw, barrel tennons and pins, front sight, rear sight, trigger, trigger plate, trigger pin, trigger guard, thimbles, side plate, nose cap, butt plate, toe plate. The required book for this class will be: The Art of Building the Pennsylvania Long Rifle by Chuck Dixon and Dave Ehrig, which is also included in the Course fee.*Please note during checkout, that Zeffy will suggest a percentage contribution which is completely optional and unrelated to JHS or this program. If desired, $0.00 can be entered in this field.
