Souvenir is an award-winning play with music that tells the true story of Florence Foster Jenkins, a New York socialite and opera singer with a notoriously poor sense of pitch, and her long-suffering accompanist, Cosm&eacute; McMoon. The show, which features both jazz and classical music, is told from Cosm&eacute;&rsquo;s perspective, chronicling their relationship from their first meeting in the 1930s to Jenkins&rsquo;s final, sold-out performance at Carnegie Hall. The story balances comedy and drama as Cosm&eacute; grapples with telling the famous singer the truth about her lack of talent. Velvety-voiced pianist&nbsp;Elizabeth Shepherd&nbsp;arrived on the international scene in 2006 when herdebut album Start To Move was voted one of the Top 3 jazz albums of the year by the listener of the influential Gilles Peterson Show on BBC Radio Worldwide. Since then, the globetrotting souljazz innovator has released five widely acclaimed records, picked up 4 JUNO nominations, and toured extensively in North America, Europe, Japan and Latin America. Mando maestro Andrew Collins finds himself &ndash; through no actual fault of his own &ndash; at the epicentre of Canada&rsquo;s acoustic/roots music scene. He didn&rsquo;t invent it &ndash; but he&rsquo;s certainly been a major contributor, having co-founded seriously noteworthy Canadian bands like the Creaking Tree String Quartet, the Foggy Hogtown Boys and, more recently, his namesake Trio. That&rsquo;s not to mention the fact that this prolific, robust performer &ndash; comfortable on mandolin, fiddle, guitar, mandola and mandocello &ndash; composes, produces, arranges, writes and teaches across multiple genres, including an electrifying fusion of folk, acoustic roots, newgrass and even a dash of chamber where warranted :-) As Collins gathers up innumerable JUNO nominations (5) and Canadian Folk Music Awards (7) won by his various ensembles, he&rsquo;s zeroing in on the work he does with Trio-mates: &nbsp;fellow string guru Adam Shier, whose versatility shines through on guitar and mandolin, and in-the-pocket James McEleney holding it down on the bass, mandocello and vocals.&nbsp; Showcasing a dizzying number of styles and instruments on stage, Collins and Co. appear to live by the old adage, &ldquo;idle hands are the devil&rsquo;s workshop&rdquo;, likely keeping them just ahead of his grasp. Bending and blending genres, these musical shape shifters land somewhere between the re-imagined worlds of B&eacute;la Fleck, Newgrass invader David Grisman and the legendary Yo Yo Ma!The Trio recently released their aptly titled album, &ldquo;The Rule of Three&rdquo;, drawing inspiration from the literary principle that a trio of elements is more impactful, intricately weaving together visual and literary art&rsquo;s &ldquo;rule of thirds. The album was, serendipitously enough, nominated for 3 Canadian Folk Music Awards!&nbsp; Here at The Langham on March 1st, they&rsquo;re releasing &ldquo;Retro&rdquo;, a treasure trove of Andrew&rsquo;s signature tracks over the years with fresh arrangements and spirited trio interplay. From blazing bluegrass to jazzy waltzes and classical reinterpretations, Retro shows that great music evolves through honouring its roots.

The interplay of the tar&rsquo;s resonant strings and the santur&rsquo;s shimmering tones form a conversation that invites listeners to experience both the sound and the silence, the individual and the collective. Together they create a space where Persian tradition and contemporary expression converge, celebrating the power of unity and the beauty found in the spaces between. Amir Amiri is a Santur player, composer, and cultural inventor. A CBC Artist of the Year (2003), Amir performs and tours regularly with a vast spectrum of ensembles, enchanting with his signature down-to-earth style and connection with audiences. He dwells at the centre of a unique musical universe where ancient inspiration, dazzling virtuosity, and bold creativity meet. He has composed the soundtrack for Matthew Rankin&#39;s film Universal Language, which was short-listed to represent Canada at the Oscars 2025 and won the Directors&rsquo; Fortnight Audience Award at Cannes Festival 2024. His latest album Ajdad / Ancestors : Echoes of Persia has been at the top of world music charts since last September.&nbsp; Elham Manoucheri is a master of several traditional Persian instruments such as Tar, Setar, Shourangiz, and Robab. She has collaborated with a variety of musicians from multiple backgrounds and performed across Canada. Most notably, Elham performed repertoire dedicated to Persian culture with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra in 2023. As the co-founder and singer of the DIBA collective upon her arrival in Montreal in 2014, she has since immersed herself in the city&#39;s cultural fabric and cultivated her musical talents. Elham is supported by the Conseil des arts de Montr&eacute;al and the Canada Council for the Arts.&nbsp;

Join Jim Holyoak in drawing to explore the microscopic world of plankton. Workshop will be held in the theatre where pictures of aquatic creatures will be projected and used as inspiration for drawings.&nbsp; Please bring a pad of paper or sketch book and drawing tools of your choice eg: pencils and pencil crayons. Join exhibition artists as they demonstrate and discuss some of the new materials that they are incorporating in their creative practices; plant based inks and binders, bio plastics and found materials.&nbsp;

Artist as Alchemist: New Material Demonstrations

Join poet Eimear Laffan as she leads participants in responding directly to works of art in the exhibition LOOT: Orienting to Matter through the writing of poems, Taking the art work as a starting point for experimental stories, myths, and maps. Like the exhibition the work is expansive inviting participants to navigate their own imaginative journeys, rather than learning set technique. This is a space to dream, mix memory with fiction, and expand your creative freedom.&nbsp; Materials: Please bring with you a pen or pencil and a notebook.

Join us at the Langham for an evening with folk musician and activist Luke Wallace 🎵. His songs carry stories from the coast and communities like ours, inviting you to listen, reflect, and sing along.
