Urban sprawl is the opposite of sustainability. Because traditional planning has been ineffective, this presentation proposes a framework of specific targets and limits to urban sprawl for Montreal to guide future development. The Commissioner for Sustainable Development produced a report in 2023 denouncing the ineffectiveness of the new law.  What is the commissioner proposing and what can we do as citizens to improve this sad situation? Catherine Vallée is a biologist, teacher and recently retired. Her interest in the environment dates back to her childhood. She became an activist in 2020 when she joined a citizens' group in her municipality campaigning for the preservation of the green space on the former golf course acquired by a property developer. The aim is to ecologically restore Candiac's last green space and make it accessible to all. In 2021, she founded the Coalition Terrains de Golf en Transition to exchange experiences with other citizen groups and wage common struggles.
